Old man winter missed the bus and we got a few more days of detecting ahead I guess!! Late season conditions were keeping me and Iron Patch digging steady most of today. We hit the spot where I scored the US large cent a little while back, I figured there was a couple left hiding since we didn't give a full smackdown last trip there.

After re-establishing where the site was, we started to dig and found out there was stuff all over the entire field! a pleasant surprise, lots of buttons and coins and the odd nitnoid to keep it interesting. Lots of buttons, but not too many marked ones, I did however find a St. John;s Provincials (late 1700's early 1800's militia) (interesting...only about 200 members when this button came out) French cinq centimes (1790's Revolution coinage) and a back off a powder flask that I found last time but only took it in from the car today (for shame)

At the end of our hunt today we stopped off at a spot we hunted recently as well, and that's where Santa left something for me to find....first target in the field!!!
And although it didn't have a big bow on it I was sure happy to find a McCausland penny, check it out in the Canadian coin books, it's a rare one and it wasn't my first, but this one is awesome the way it is and it got a ton of character!!

Very nice haul of presents!
Did you weigh your McCausland penny? Just curious.
Another rare Canadian coin found by you guys.
Geesh! You're gonna have to write the new Charlton! Have any sold since the Hoare auction of Oct. 1999?
The square hole reminds me of the type you see on a butt plate. It does have character.
Congratulations.
Dave.

I did not weigh mine, but I can say it's probably in the average size range, it isn' t really heavy and it's not light or thin either

last one I know of selling was a Torex auction last June and it went for $1500, it was a detected one, great shape and triple struck!

believe me if I wanted a PEI coin with a hole I wouldn't have picked this one, but still it's just one of a handfull out there!

There aren't many being discovered above ground! If anything rare is going to be found these days, its surely going to be in the soil or the water. That's why this hobby Rocks!
Banner find for sure!
Dave.

Depends what you mean by many. Put it this way, I know there's enough that someday I'll get mine!

The Island was spitting out the relics and coins for you guys yesterday. That area saw a lot of activity over a great number of years.

The militia button is one of those "I can now sleep peacefully this winter" type finds.

Actually it's the token that's better for the ZZZZs.
