I just came across this site... maybe you guys already know about it... but it allows you to view a modern aerial image of an area and then slide over with an aerial image from another era.... many in my area go back to 1952.
It doesn't cover every area of the US but a lot of it is there.

Seems like it would be a great resource for finding old landmarks or places where buildings or homes used to be.
