With a family member being a Mason, the stars of David, and the sybols... all that's left to figure out is the HH. The last initial of the family is an H, but the person who was the Mason was named Charles. Maybe there is another, might check this winter.

WORKING TOOLS OF A ROYAL ARCH MASON.

Maybe Mr H & Mrs H??

I would think the HH would be obvious to everyone here.
Ihe man who lost the ring was obviously a seer of sorts and, seeing that you would find the ring, was merely wishing you happy hunting. :icon_jokercolor:

Okay, I have no clue, but it sounded good.
great!

Seal matrixes, one of my favorite finds! It looks to be around 300 years old. I would not clean it anymore, I tried cleaning a few and they just get worse. Use silly putty if you make an impression, wax could easily get caught in the stamp since the patina is rough. Where are you IP? I found two matrixes last week but they are both late 1800s to early 1900s. HH, Mike

Cool Ring!!!

A 400 yr old 10K gold ring was found on my hubby's property back in '98. Dr. Phelps (the archie) had it traced back to England to a Abraham Kendall and this pre-dated the Lost Colony! (Yes, the ring belongs to my hubby, not Dr. Phelps or anyone else!)

Have you tried doing some research in the local courthouse, checking census records, seeing if the library may hold some old newspapers (ours only go back to 1865, when our local paper started). Depending on your location, a historical society may give you some clues as to early settlers and maps...look at plat maps from different time periods to see if you can find an H.H. person.

Henry (first name comes to mind).....

Good luck in your research and I can't wait for the outcome!!! Also, I would think a jeweler could fix that ring for you, put it back into shape! Also, do you see any kind of markings on the inside? Hubby's had no inside markings, they did a test on it to determine it was 10k gold.

Congrats and HH,
Annmarie

If you put the ring back to its original configuration wouldnt it be huge. The finger that the ring fit was as big around as a sausage. Cool find I.P.

Maybe the H.H. stands for happy hunting? I doubt it though. Maybe the owners middle name was commonly used instead of his first name, might be hank or Henry, ie. My real name is Larry Michael, most everyone on the homefront and around town called me by my middle name..........NGE (T)

Congrats on the ring, it's very nice for sure. I hope you get a solid ID on it

I don't think it's Masonic but the arcadia is very intruiging. I;ll do a bit of research when I can but that's a fantastic find.

That is quite a find, IP. Bravo to you on that recovery! Is the seal matrix itself soapstone, or some sort of semi-precious stone?

Buck

It's just brass. So does that eliminate it from being a "seal ring"?

I hope I can eventually figure it out because the settler was a Loyalist from NY.

great find it is an old farmers mark ring. these were given out buy the stores that sold the farmers there seeds the design looks like a wheat or maybe corn. this was a permosional item and not commen anymore. the store gave them out with purchases. and they recived them from the seed makers.
My grand father has a couple that he shows and promised my daughter when his time comes. I will be up visiting him in a couple of weeks and will post pics for you to see. out side of his i have never seen another. I know that the ones ive seen were from my great grandfather when he owned the farm

I know the fob type seals didn't always have stones so makes sense.
