I never said anything about a civil war camp (although it is a strong possibility, I know the facts, area, history etc. but not sharing that info on here for obvious reasons) Plus, it is right in the heart of the South, not Canada. If you've found a few just like this, can we see them? All I said was Confederate Wreath buckle found!... BTW- I stated in my post that I found an 1855 Springfield musket band on my first hunt here as well so it's not the only CW era / military related relic I've found here. The house was inhabited from the mid 1800s to near present day, of course there are going to be finds from all periods including the 20th century! It seems like you are saying that I'm misleading people and I don't have any standards? Sorry, I was excited about a good find and wanted to share... Although now this post (which I was really happy about) is now making me sick to my stomach with all the arguing etc., thanks guys, I appreciate it. If anyone can prove me wrong that it is Confederate / NC I'll gladly edit my post or take it down. I posted based on the research I've done and the NC seal buckle is a match besides the curved bridge. Nothing else I've found is close. I would say HH but these posts aren't making me very happy.

I'm really sorry that this has taken away from your find but my post was not directed to you. There has been an ongoing debate prior to your post and I responded to civil_war22.
I knew that I should have started a whole new thread with items pertaining to the civil war and surely wouldn't want bickering on one of my cherished finds post.
You were not misleading anyone and shouldn't have had this happen here.
I apologize.
Dave.

No worries Dave, all good. I think I misinterpreted your post. HH!

Someone who only has 4 posts trash talking another member. Obviously doesn't know treasurenet rules and regulations.

Wow, what a find, I have never found a plate!! The railroad seal you found looks like a seal I found that was on a box of ammo from the Civil War. I found it at the Spillman farm near Brandy Station, Va. this past spring. All you finds are Great, Congratulations!!!

Gentlemen, you can disagree but keep it civil and by our rules....

TNhustle please read our rules, NO personal attacks.....

There is a Pre CW Naval Buckle that is awfully close to yours, but so is the NC......???

...here is one of Civils "Officer",buckles....I know of over 15 of this one dug

I dug one of these in Arkansas, but in very poor shape. It's actually just the tongue piece, but you can make out the M. Cohen And Brother San Francisco Cal.

Here's some additional info for you about your unusual version of rein-guide, which has a swinging disc in its center, unlike most rein-guides. As you already know, it is a device from a particular type of horse-harness that was used in pulling a wagon or buggy.

Although we relic-diggers call the object you found a rein-guide, horsegear (horse tack) dealers call it a rein "terret." The unusual version you found, having a swinging disc in its center is called a "fly terret." Here is a drawing from an early-1900s horsegear mail-order catalog, showing various versions of "fly or head terrets."

I'll also include a photo showing where the terrets were mounted on the horse-harness. They were not mounted on the wagon.)

Terrets/rein-guides are still being manufactured and sold today. I am NOT saying yours is a modern-era one... I'm just saying they are extremely difficult to accurately time-date, because the version of rein-guides we dig here in the US can date anywhere from the late-1800s through today. Most, of course, are from the late-1800s through the 1930s, after which time motorized trucks replaced horsedrawn wagons. You can view a modern-made version of your "fly-terret" for sale about halfway down the webpage here: HEAVY HORSE RANGE

Well they might not be issued during the civil war, but it doesn't mean they have nothing to do with the civil war.

The first one is muled, he either found the wreath or found the tongue, but I can tell they were not found together.

The second one looks pre-war and many soldiers during the civil war were still wearing prewar buckles; mainly confederates.

If you say they have nothing to do with the Civil War in your case, I believe you, but if they were found in the south I wouldn't.

I believe what Kuger means is, that particular type was not civil war "Army-issue" buckles... meaning, they were not issued to troops by the US (or CS) Army Quartermaster Department during the civil war.

As we know, many soldiers brought their own equipment with them when they enlisted. Also, soldiers purchased various equipment on their own (instead of receiving it from the Army Quartermaster) during their service. For example, soldiers brought (or purchased) their own pistols and "non-Regulation-issue" swords, buttons, etc. from non-Army suppliers such as sutlers and local "military goods" shops.

Some pre-war buckles definitely got used during the civil war. If I'm interpreting Kuger correctly, he just meant they are not 1861-65 Army-issued buckles.
