Heavymetalnut took me to some of his sites. Alot of coppers have been pulled from these sites so I was very anxious to dig myself one. AFter 2 hrs of swinging and no good signals I was starting to get discouraged. BUt as soon as I start to lose hope I get a very nice solid quarter signal at 6-7 inches! Awesome....I dig my plug carefully thinking this was a for sure copper. I pull my plug out and I reach down and pull dirt out and there it was! A COMPLETE SHOE BUCKLE! OH MAN! I"m on cloud nine! I call Dave over to look at this thing, he's stunned ( He did not find one keeper...sorry dave) I must of stood there for another 10 minutes just soakin it all in. Finnaly I picked up my gear and started swinging again. After another half hr we decided to head to another site. On the way to another cellar hole I mentioned to Dave that I wanted to dig my first KG very badly. He told me about other coins that have been pulled from this site. King George, Vermont copper, Large Cents, Fugio. After an hour of swingin I finnaly hit another good signal. Copper 8+ inches! WOO! I dig down, check my hole...it's gone....ahhhh! Dig further and further and finnaly I found the signal again....YES! I swear this little KG was close to a foot deep! My little Prizm 3 hangs with the big dogs! Sorry about the unclear pic of the coin...and the hole in the center of it...hehe...I'm debating on whether or not I should use the peroxide treatment to it. It's definetely a KG but I can't seem to get a date out of the crust, KG is facing right and has a pointy nose. I'll update after I clean it.. Thanks for looking.

The copper is a mere bonus next to that buckle! Awesome find!!!

Yeah, like when I hunt with you, I get all the bonus material. :-\

Good thing I wasn't there... and even better that the truth is now revealed, you can talk a big game but when it's time to play ball ur just a benchwarmer :laughing7:

Well look, if it isn't the Itsy-Bitsy finds Iron Spider.

The itsy bitsy finds spider

Took his fisher out

Down came the rain

And washed the spider out.

Up came the sun

And dried up all the rain.

But the itsy bitsy Iron spider

Remained findless all the same.

:laughing7:

So I get out of the shower to see that ms. Iron poet has written me a poem. I didn't know rookies got that type of treatment. 8)

Truth be told I kind of stole the poem, much the same way I'd steal your finds if I ever hunted your sites! :headbang:

Coins/tokens with holes in the middle normally indicate its cancellation - which implies its a counterfeit.

True statement, I think this one is legit, but was at the point in its circulation life where perhaps the merchants were no longer accepting that as currency. I don't know of any mass production of Woods Hibernia's, if any, I will ask Dr Mossman who is currently doing a study on them and perhaps the most knowledgable individual on Woods coppers..

I don't think that was a common practice in these parts because I believe many coppers we find had little to no value when lost, but very few have holes. They melted the quality metal coins they collected and I would guess out right destroyed everything else. Punching a hole, if anything, would just make more work.

Here they used to collect the discontinued coins by the barrel full and I've often thought.... imagine if they buried them, even just 1! :tongue3: We find a great variety at our sites so what they collected over the years would have been extremely interesting, and to find hundreds or thousands at once. Now there's a dream!

If I found the barrell, I would finish the job & melt them down :D

I would sort through and find a cartweel for Shaun...

Then let him watch it melt with the rest of them. ;D

anyway you look at it, I'm happy.

You have been kicking some serious butt lately.
Congrats on your successful hunt.
