Heavymetalnut took me to some of his sites. Alot of coppers have been pulled from these sites so I was very anxious to dig myself one. AFter 2 hrs of swinging and no good signals I was starting to get discouraged. BUt as soon as I start to lose hope I get a very nice solid quarter signal at 6-7 inches! Awesome....I dig my plug carefully thinking this was a for sure copper. I pull my plug out and I reach down and pull dirt out and there it was! A COMPLETE SHOE BUCKLE! OH MAN! I"m on cloud nine! I call Dave over to look at this thing, he's stunned ( He did not find one keeper...sorry dave) I must of stood there for another 10 minutes just soakin it all in. Finnaly I picked up my gear and started swinging again. After another half hr we decided to head to another site. On the way to another cellar hole I mentioned to Dave that I wanted to dig my first KG very badly. He told me about other coins that have been pulled from this site. King George, Vermont copper, Large Cents, Fugio. After an hour of swingin I finnaly hit another good signal. Copper 8+ inches! WOO! I dig down, check my hole...it's gone....ahhhh! Dig further and further and finnaly I found the signal again....YES! I swear this little KG was close to a foot deep! My little Prizm 3 hangs with the big dogs! Sorry about the unclear pic of the coin...and the hole in the center of it...hehe...I'm debating on whether or not I should use the peroxide treatment to it. It's definetely a KG but I can't seem to get a date out of the crust, KG is facing right and has a pointy nose. I'll update after I clean it.. Thanks for looking.

That buckle looks so nice. Museum quality!! Nice going on the copper too! The hole tells me it may have been sewn into a garment. There should be some good flat buttons or possibly another holed coin from the same string there!

I would like to see new pics of the coin once you get ur battery charged. I voted your shoe buckle for the banner, don't know that it will make it but it's the best complete example I've seen here. I/S

Wow! thanks for the vote! I tried taking better pics of the coin, but I can't seem to get a good shot of it. Most of the detail can only be seen while the coin is wet and tilted back and forth. It's def. a 1723 Hibernia Half penny though. I'll keep trying with the pics.

Re: Complete shoe buckle and a 1723 Hibernia Half Penny

Two things about that patina.

1) You actually took a risk running it under the water. It could have very easily washed away some of the color leaving large brown spots. You can see areas where it did thin a bit, but luckily still looks very good. If you seal the inside, but leave the frame, over the years the color on the thinner areas will likely get a bit darker. There's no risk to not sealing brass, especially when it looks like that. That being said, a coat of wax can make it look slick and look nice. But you want to be sure because removing the wax might hurt the patina. Maybe test a small part on the back.

2) I wish I had patina like that here! I can only think of one decent military button I have that came out with an awesome dark green patina. If your old coppers are usually crusty than maybe you beat the odds too.

I have great faith in you. Over the last year watching the pattern of finds, your scores come in well above average.

I'm not concerned. The only thing I have to do is get us to some good fields. After that the Detecting God calls the shot on who gets the best find.

Not many people who see my goodies in person feel sorry for me. (well no one) :tongue3:

My point exactly, you have accumulated enough awesome finds...you could quit now and your inner desire for treasure would be forever satisfied. But our kind does not know when to stop...."Pass the salt, coins and buttons please?....burp...."

Well look, if it isn't the Itsy-Bitsy finds Iron Spider.

The itsy bitsy finds spider

Took his fisher out

Down came the rain

And washed the spider out.

Up came the sun

And dried up all the rain.

But the itsy bitsy Iron spider

Remained findless all the same.

:laughing7:
