COLONIAL SILVER SPOON ? & IH'S!

got out with Frankie boy today.we both had the day off and thought we would take advantage of the warm day.
2 IH's (my 49th on the year) 1882 & 1898,a small silvered flat button and a monogrammed silver spoon that unfortunately has the bowl portion all mangled.i tried to unfold it slowly with plyers but where the folds are it started cracking from stress so, i stopped.it's not hallmarked but no doubt silver.the monogramed lettering style seems colonial era to me.

I agree your spoon appears to be colonial to very early 1800s. I have found a couple with initials like that. In fact, I started a colonial silver spoon thread on the Best Finds forum to try get all these neat spoons in one thread.
i talked to a silver smith restorer today here in Ct.he said for $15 he can make it look like new.he deals alot with damaged 18th century flatware.your thoughts anyone? should i go for it?
For $15 you can't go wrong. I would go for it!

I agree, even if it were worth less it would be a good idea, but then I've never been about the money :P

I totally agree! restoring a colonial spoon to put in my display box is what it's all about.somebody said make a ring out of it lol. why ruin a piece of history like that? not an option in my book

Personally, I wouldn't trust anyone that said that they "could make my 18th century recovery look like new for $15!" Always, always, get a second or even a third opinion!

If this spoon is by an important early American maker like Revere or by British maker Storr, I'd still want a quality antique silver dealer or collector to look at it prior to any restoration being done.

Remember, whatever you decide to do to it now can't be undone later!

with no hallmarks how would one ever know if it was Revere or Storr?
