Ironhorse and I had a good day of digging, found and old site, dug all day, but just didn't hit the big one. Usually a day like this gives up an early military but this is a very weird year for us, they just don't seem to want to come out. If it had, it would have made the two trash dumps I dug into a whole lot more interesting, and probably worth digging out. The take was a bunch of buttons, including some pewter designed, a tombac designed, a silvered designed, and a couple neat matching glass ones. (I believe it's a ship with two sails and a flag... very hard to take a good pic) The coins are pretty crusty but are... 1797 Twopence/2 Penny (HUGE copper, and a first for me) 1775 Brit. George Halfpenny, Brit. George II & Irish George II.

The best thing about this hunt was it's a different area than we've been, and there's lots of fields left!

Iron Patch , In about two and a half years on this site I've maybe seen two of those tuppence
dug and posted -- In fact Until your post this evening, I forgot that those coins were a two
penny piece rather than a one , and is it true they only made them for that one year 1797 ?
Huge congrats !!!! Argentium.

One of the few others posted here, the only one I know of, was dug by Romeo, on a visit here. Yes, only 1797.

to bad about the shape bu, like you said on an earlier post...it is what it is!...sweet!!!

I'll still take it for sure. It gives a lot more hope to those sites for more early military with something like that showing up. I still might have a shot at my keeper relic yet!
Patch buddy after I saw your latest post I wondered what you thought of this one I found at the place I'm working. I'll remove this post just wanted to get your thought's. There is just a little guilt speck or two left. But I saw the rim back when I put it away.

When I get buttons like that I throw them in to be cleaned. Not much to lose is there, and never know, something might show up under the crud.

Quite a FINE hunt for you! The fact that that cartwheel is readable is wonderful. (That counts double on the copper count, right? ;D )

Too bad about the KAR button...But, there is more to come, it sounds like.

Nice work. I'm also searching for one more Good relic find this year.

Regards,

Buckles

Those are nice finds man.

Are you in Canada. You guys get some great colonial stuff. Those are the best types of finds.

Hi I.P.

Your 2-P coin was refered to as a "cartwheel" penny, and was only minted in 1797. I found one on my first trip to England in 1987. Mine had no date and I ask a member of the Newberry club if there was anyway to date it. He said sure 1797 and I had cked the coin for a date and couldn't find one. That was when he told me they only minted them in that one year.

Nice coppers :icon_thumleft: Would love to see some pics of you out there in the field digging some of those old coppers, that would be awesome!

Way to go on another great hunt, you guys are tearing up the fields this fall. The twopenny is awesome, but I really like the glass pair of ship buttons. Something tells me they have an interesting story behind them, very unique. Maybe they have a military past, i'd be looking into it for sure. Your posts continue to motivate me to get out and try to have a good hunt, i've had a miserable fall.

James.

Taking nothing away from IH, as i am sure he will agree, it's not everyday that a two penny cartwheel is dug.

you got that right, yours and IP's are the only ones outside the UK I've ever seen dug

I don't recall seeing a dug one ever for sale... even from the UK.

I think Shaun is hoarding them. :laughing9:

I just knew I'd get a mention as soon as I saw that coin ::)

Patch,

You guys tore that site to Colonial shreds. :icon_thumleft: You know I love the coppers, but the shoe buckle chapes have my passion high. :headbang: :hello2:

I guess the inlet field proved to be a Colonial success. ;D

I like those ship cufflinks the best, IP. I can picture a fella wearing them while waiting for the ships to come in and deliver goods to the Canadian turf. I can bet my life that nothing "ship-related" would be found in my area.

Hit it hard, at every angle mathematically possible, and slower than I will walk at 90 years old. :laughing9:

Great finds! I thought one of those buttons was an 8 Reale at first. :laughing9: HH..

You can't see it well, but there's a silver plated button in the pile that really got me going. The last cord on my headphones went a few weeks ago so am finishing the year with a cheap set, and I do know what's a good sound, but have have the same amount of info... silver coin vs copper coin vs pop can etc.. So when I seen the button still caked with dirt and only a little silver breaking through, I though it was going to be an early two reale. The place is prime for something like that but was not meant to be.

You deserve to be mentioned twice on that one. ;D

Might be a hard to match, don't think CRU has one either.
