I dug this beautiful old brass spigot today, or keg tap as they are most well known. I found it at my site that produced 2 capped bust dimes and an 1858 trime. I have also found multiple post colonial flat buttons on this site. You colonial experts please chime in with your opinions on this tap. I am trying to see if there was 1700s activity on this site, and am relying on relics alone as my research. Everybody is welcome to share thoughts! Sorry there are not more pictures of my finds today, but it was sooooo hot, i only hunted for two hours. Is it 18th century or later?

Also, I am experimenting with a new method of "dry cleaning" old brass relics, because i find that the green patina sometimes comes off with water. I think this method keeps brass relics looking much more presentable.

Here is one I just purchased that came from Port Royal Jamaica back in the 1960's

Hello everyone ! This is my first post here but have been watching posts on here for some time. Thanks for having me , what an awesome group you have here ! Here is a spigot I just purchased from a treasure diver that found it in Port Royal Jamaica back in the 1960's , it looks a lot like the other ones in this post. I was told it was from the 18th century. What do you all think the time period would be ? Thanks in advance. Jim

That is a nice one Jim. I agree with the 18th century date range.

Welcome aboard BJ, because these spigots were used through out the 17-19th cent. and beyond I beleive the best way to date an idividual spigot is to take into consideration the context. If you find several items that lead you to believe the site you are on is a 17th century site then most likely that is era you can put on your spigot. If the spigot you purchased came from Port Royal, Jamaca then I would say it is from 1692.
Nice piece,
ZDD
