Cold afternoon, but wont be better for a while

Had an hour or so free this afternoon. Hit a spot close to the house. Came up with a stirrup (never found one like that before, assuming it modernish) two brass pieces (one of which I think is horsetack, but will soon be appearing in the “what is it” forum) a couple modern coins and enough nails to build a small house. Stay warm and safe over the next few days.

WHat type of area was this found ? Any idea to the age of use in this area ?

Found near Richmond Va. activity from at least 1850. Activity in general area to early/mid 1700s. House site/farm. Have found items CW to present.

At the moment the outside spigots are cut off (for obvious reasons) and don’t think it would work well for me if the Mrs found me cleaning that in the kitchen sink.

It’s iron/steel. I have a collection of items awaiting warmer weather when I can fire up the electrolysis.

I’ll go grab the brass brush and see if it helps. Tried scraping off the dirt when found….assuming a lot of the concretions still present are rust, not dirt. Brush will tell me one way or another.

Edit: photos attached. After braving frostbite and tetanus at the same time, I can report that the brush didn’t do much. Did add tape measure for reference.

Ok…now the million dollar question…..which piece of equipment? I’m at a loss if that’s what it is.
