Had run into a guy at MBeach earlier in the year and he had shared with me that while he was not on a beach hunting with his CTX 3030 he liked to
silver coin hunt inland. I didn't take notes, and surely couldn't remember all he had explained about what settings he used but that he said
he had it set up to where if he ran across a silver coin land hunting there was no doubt he had a SILVER COIN because he said, his CTX would just
'scream' and that this was almost definitely a good silver target. Could anyone guide me to a program that may be what this guy was using coin shooting
for silver. Just sounded way to easy....but then again, maybe he was just that good.

Thanks,

HH & GL

edited: what I would be trying to do here is to bypass digging recent clad, and just going after the good stuff. JMO that this is NOT possible......

I don't know about the ctx, but its brother the etrac I can't distinguish clad from silver in terms of sound. Sometimes the target of will be higher than clad, for example a clad dime will read 12 45 most of the time but if its silver sometimes it rings up around 12 46, but that is where i have dug tons of clad quarters. If it sounds good and it gives the readings that indicate coinage, I just dig it. It all spends. The vest indicator almost all the time its something old is depth plus good sound and numbers. Those three things combined 70 percent of the time produces something old.

Ya, this is probably the case. I do not think they have made a machine yet that will do what I am asking the question about. The whole deal here is that if there were a program that you
could distinguish between silver and just clad it would be way too awesome. Clad is nice to find, let's say you get the hit like a 12.45 and you know it is a coin hit for sure, will you can
at least if you want to, leave it alone knowing you had a coin down there, but to continue searching making for more time to find a piece of silver, which to put honestly is what I am after. Like I said in my Thread, this guy was adamant that he could tell the silvers from all others, and I did say it was JMO that this was probably not happening......unless this guy knew something
about the CTX that most of us don't.......he got my interest, that's for sure......

Not, this guy is either lying or is self deluded. The air-test response of a silver coins is not what you are guaranteed to get from the ground. You can NOT tell a shallow silver dime from a modern clad. You can NOT tell a deeper silver dime from a clad dime / copper penny / zinc cent. Yes, many of the 5" and less silvers I dig, I have a good idea of the possibility before I dig it. It's a combination of site knowledge and signal experience. Even knowing these things, I still dig silver at lower responses. Coin thickness plays a role in TID for the CTX, and a heavily worn dime can read down to CO-39.

I have been using the CTX since they were released, and the E-Trac since shortly after it was released. The CTX has a larger TID spread for silver than the E-Trac but it will positively ID the coin targets better than the E-Trac does.

What I have found in my limited experience with the ctx is this. That 12-45 in my red clay is almost a guarantee of being a quarter. I have dug memorials ringing up on that number. I have also noticed that when the memorial is ringing up on that number that if I turn down my sensitivity one or two it will ring up lower in the 30's and quarters still ring up as a 12-45. I have only found 4 silver dimes with my ctx. They all rang up on the 12-41 mark (rosies and mercs). But the soil was so dry I was having a hard time pin pointing them. Clad dimes and kennedy halfs ring up as 12-42. I have also found that bottle caps and chewed up memorials ring in at 12-39. I do dig pretty much dig everything because I am still learning with my ctx, its been fun along with frustrating! I have learned a bunch by reading Jason's and IDX monsters posts. I also use a 5 tone window which has helped me greatly! As I have read in so many posts and I believe it is that it all depends on your ground as to what you get! Just a rookie's insight!

Whoever says they can call silver with a CTX, can't.

Now you just need a list for all the garbage. It will mostly be the same numbers but you will cuss a lot more. [emoji12]

ain't that the truth !! Some of these #'s really surprised me......oh well, easy come, easy go.....

Well, junk targets are everywhere on the Fe/Co matrix. But some time ago I used my E-Trac to see where a bucket of junk would fall on the screen. I scanned a lot of iron and aluminum junk and got the display below:

This was my junk pile that got scanned:

Many of the targets hit in repeatable locations, especially along the 12Fe line - but all in all they were essentially all over the place, proving that you can never completely rule out a good target from junk.

The CTX is probably the most accurate readings I have seen. Those readings that Jackalope posted look correct if conditions are right.

Just a bit of advice, if you have something that sounds good even if it is intermittent, pay close attention to the readings even if they are bouncy. I've dug desirable targets (coins mostly) that were intermittent in sound and readings and simply took a gamble because the reading would occasionally "lock" onto the proper reading (e.g. FE/CO reading of 12.44). I will thumb back and forth between an open screen and a discrimination pattern to clean up signals and seek out a good reading and dig. I will mostly dig trash, but it pays off every once in a while. Also, you will even want to dig low readings if they are consistent and also dig deeper targets as long as they sound good, because sometimes deeper targets will not read well even though they are a desirable target. Dig using your ears first and then look at the readings.

One last thing, I will dig a target if it sounds good or the readings are bouncy if the target trace is where i want it to be on the FE/CO lines and I also see a reading from the junk cursor because junk will throw the readings off if say you have a coin under the coil. I've found a heck of a lot of nickels this way.

Jackalope,

Thanks a ton!! Have been compiling my own list but I am many many finds behind you to make it as comprehensive.

Wow great list... Thanks

Someone could make those readings a sticky?
