Hi folks, first time posting here, just had to share my finds from yesterday. Headed out to an old cellar hole ( far and few behind up here in Canada) and started to swing away.
Nothing inside so i moved to the side, about 3 feet from the path i registered a nice repeatable copper signal. Carefully dug down about 6 inches , and out came a small piece of leather with a small "O" ring on it.
Hmm, went to stand up and thought, ahhhh, better sweep again, and "bang" huge silver sound came through the head phones. Starting to shake i carfully removed a bit more dirt from the hole, and there standing on edge, a 1838 US half.
These are very, very rare to find up here so needless to say i was pumped. I stood up and started to move away , when a little voice says " hey fool , scan the area around the hole",, no way,, but i did ( yep twice i almost didnt re-scan) and the machine started going nuts. In an area roughly 16 inches wide i pulled out 6 halves dating from 1822 to 1844 and 1 province of canada half penny token.
Needless to say, my best find ever, i think i sat in the bush shaking for about half an hour before i could trust my legs to get me back to othe car :tongue3: Enjoy the pics, first few are uncleaned, next few are after a light soaking in warm water.

You can sure tell where you whiped them though,as you see that scratches! :-[
Yeah, 'cuz nothing ever gets scratched from being in the ground.
Yea but when they dont it is a crying shame to needlessly damage them when you do remove them from the ground! It is easily recognizable to tell "old",scrathes from new,but I have seen how you and you partner treat your finds so I wouldnt expect any different from you!!!!!

Fantastic finds! Those coins are beautiful, truly a great post with great pics. :hello2: Banner for sure. Maybe the find of a lifetime, but I hope you continue to have great luck like this in the future. Thanks for sharing.

Wow what a find. I sit and dream of a find like that.. Sure glad you went back in the same spot to find the rest of them....Nice story that you can pass on for a lifetime .. Shane :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:

Im no expert ??? :wav: :blob1: but this is what I see as the potential value of your coins.
1822 vg8 at best grade g-4 at worst $ 70.
1835 ef 40 extremely fine $180. au 50 $400.ms-60 $1,200 ms-63 $2,500.
1832 ef 40 $175 au50 $400
1833 vf 20 $120
1844 ms 60 $500.if you can get a ms 63 it is worth $1200.
1838 You need to know what the mint mark is if it is an O it can be worth anywhere from $240,000 to $675,000 because only 20 were minted. If no O it is anywhere from $200 $2500. I looked up an 1838 o and you don't have an O the O would be just above the 83 on the obverse.

You have quite a find and should not clean them anymore. You should have them handled/cleaned profesionally. Very nice find they are very beautiful.

WOW....Thats about all I can say right now...WOW!
That is just one sik find!! I would have had to crawl to the truck. I dont think I could have walked! 8)

Yep, we find them all the time here ,,, So often, I don't even bother to post them anymore !

Any shot of the leather pouch with the o ring on it ?

Congratulations on a truly spectacular find! And welcome to Treasurenet.

Jim

Thks for taking the time to look them up,, appreciate it,, friend of mine gave me a hand made shadow box to display them in, will be going back today to try and retrieve the remains of the purse, should make for a nice display. Thanks again folks, great people on here!!!

A person could hunt for a lifetime and never make a find like this. Congratulations on the banner.
You have to submit this to W&E treasures best finds, it would make the cover. This is the best
hobby in the world. Just think about the story behind the loss. This is the closest any of us will
ever get to time travel. You make a find like this and post it for all the world to see. What a amazing
linking of the two times.

That is about a 3 months in wages(i think) back in the day :headbang:
