Hi folks, first time posting here, just had to share my finds from yesterday. Headed out to an old cellar hole ( far and few behind up here in Canada) and started to swing away.
Nothing inside so i moved to the side, about 3 feet from the path i registered a nice repeatable copper signal. Carefully dug down about 6 inches , and out came a small piece of leather with a small "O" ring on it.
Hmm, went to stand up and thought, ahhhh, better sweep again, and "bang" huge silver sound came through the head phones. Starting to shake i carfully removed a bit more dirt from the hole, and there standing on edge, a 1838 US half.
These are very, very rare to find up here so needless to say i was pumped. I stood up and started to move away , when a little voice says " hey fool , scan the area around the hole",, no way,, but i did ( yep twice i almost didnt re-scan) and the machine started going nuts. In an area roughly 16 inches wide i pulled out 6 halves dating from 1822 to 1844 and 1 province of canada half penny token.
Needless to say, my best find ever, i think i sat in the bush shaking for about half an hour before i could trust my legs to get me back to othe car :tongue3: Enjoy the pics, first few are uncleaned, next few are after a light soaking in warm water.

Incredible condition! It's amazing the leather from the purse or the ground did not stain or tone the coins. Did you save the remnants of the purse? Congrats on a spectacular find!
was in such a hurry and state of "freakishness" that i forgot to grab the few tiny pieces of the wallet, what i did keep was the 3 brass rings from the purse, and one has a tiny piece of leather on it still.

Amazing! Congratulations on a once-in-a-lifetime find! :hello2:

There are very few words to describe a find like this, and since they are being said over and over above and below, I will simply say, this would look very good on the banner.

Holy Frickin cow - THAT'S AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I was just fixing to cast my Banner vote, but there it is already up there where it truely belongs! WTG, on an amazing, awesome find. Any one of them coins found alone would be great, but 6 early American halves, whoa. :icon_king:

Holy Cow! Not just one or or even TWO! Those are some seriously beautiful pieces of history there you've found. I guess you couldn't possibly take a bad picture of any of those coins. What a good treasure hunting/detecting story and find. WOW WOW WOW !!! And those early dates of the coins are something to be real proud of as well. Great stuff, thanks for sharing with us.
I see you've made the banner as would be deserved of such a nice find. I'd go back and hope for a pot full of 1804 dollars now. That's the bust ..I mean best looking group of old US coins I've seen on here yet to come out of the ground.

Congrats on the banner find. What amazes me more is that you can type with shaking hands to tell the story. I know mine would still be shaking for weeks after a find like this.

Stories like this is what got me into this hobby and they also get me excited about going back out and swinging the coil.! Thanks for sharing!
