I use a screwdriver to "pop up" coins within a few inches of the surface. Just keep probing the general area until I feel something hard. I also have a Corona Comfort Weeder that cost $6 & is made of aluminum alloy with lifetime warranty. You go to the ace hardware site & get the part #, then order it through your local Ace Hardware & there is no shipping charge. The aluminum alloy should not scratch most coins if hit. HH, George (MN)
