So I was at that 1704 house today installing the wireless, camera and such...

I started in the dirt basement and within 5 minutes... I had this coin pop out...

Any clues... I can see one number that is a 9... infact... looks like 99...

Paul,

I am glad I was able to help with the ID. As I said in the other forum it is most likely a 1692-1694 William and Mary Halfpenny. You can clearly see the "16" above the harp. I will post a picture of a Wm. & Mary for comparison.

As far as as coins from the 1600's, they do pop up here in TNet every so often. I found a 1699 William III Halfpenny back in May , along with coins from 4 other centuries in one day. I doubt I will ever have another 5 century day without crossing the Atlantic. There were a few attributes and a barely readable date which helped me ID it.. Here is my original post. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,158989.0.html

Once again, congrats on an amazing find!

I've probably found 40 1600s coins but condition, that's another story. :-\

I have never seen an Irish W&M before. Found quite a few English W&Ms.

I know this is really obivious, but by the wear on the coin it would have been lost around 1740-1750ish or later. Impossible to tell really, as a really worn coin could still have been lost recently depending on depth etc... But you can be sure it was well circulated before being lost.

I concur on the coin being lost probably 40+ years or later after it was minted, also odds on favorite the exact date is 1693.

All of my William & Mary coins appear to be non-Irish, but my son has a 1686 James II Irish Halfpenny and a 1693 W&M Halfpenny. He has noted on his record the W&M is most likely a 1693 date, since 1692 & 1694 are rare dates.
My son's coin is like this coin the right side where the date would be is not readable.
His coins would not been seen on any forum in recent times since one was found in 1997 and the other in 2002.

Sweet Fooser....Congrat's on the ID,what a find!!!! :thumbsup: I've got a "slug" that fit's a 1600's coin.....does that count? ::)

Nice one paul.. I got to see that one when we go out next time. Told ya during the summer you'd get an old one. And you sure smoked my oldest { only 1724}. I just got his cousin last month, but it only a 1760's irish farthing. Congrats on an awesome coin.
