He found the coin fishing? Like dragging a net on the bottom? And are you saying it is magnetic?

I am no expert, but it looks a little no pretty to be real. but you never know.

That's a fake! Look for the casting seam around the edge.

Those tests are subjective, they only work if you have a lot of experience.

If you spit on it, and wrap it in tin foil for a little bit, then open it, and it smells like rotten eggs, you have silver. Tarnish on silver is sulpher based.

A jeweler or coin shop can confirm my assessment easily. An acid test would also work.

Good luck!

amazing coin I need one of those

Hello, we were vacationing last week. in Corolla and While my husband was fishing at the waters edge he found a coin in the wash. We have researched and done the 3 tests on it. My question is do the fake coins pass all the test such as the ping, magnetic, ice tests as ours did? Thank you. I will attach pictures of the coin.

He was pole fishing at the waters edge and found it in the wash.

We had done the magnet test on it with an industrial magnet and the coin doesnt move. There is no magnetic current.

amazing coin I need one of those

Tommy I'm pretty sure you HAVE one of those!!...It looks exactly like the fake/ornamental "coin" that comes with a new AT Pro and Max (maybe other Garrett detectors, not sure)...one of the useless trinkets you get with your "package" deal..lol. I've got 2 of those, just biding my time on when and where to plant it to freak my hunting buddy out! I mean, this guy gets excited over a clad quarter, spazzes out over wheaties and nearly faints digging silver...im going to have the camera ready when I do lol. We're getting ready to unleash our machines on a 650 acre farm with with known history this weekend so I might plant it and move on, knowing he likes to follow my path trying to find stuff I might've missed...Ddf.

I found a new, deluxe Leatherman tool laying in the surf while driving down Hatteras Island. I still have it. I'm satisfied.

Looks like a reproduction, but, better close up photos would help. These are a bit out of focus.

Unfortunately what you have there is a reproduction or "copy" coin. I got the same one when I purchased my (package deal) Minelab X-Terra 705 a few years ago.

dirtdigginfool , I also spazz out when I dig a wheatie , and nearly faint when I find a silver coin , doesn't everybody ? Am I missing something here ?

Definitely a copy, you can see where the "gold" plating is wearing through.

THOSE WILL PASS THE MAGNETIC TEST EVERY TIME - THEY ARE NOT STEEL
THEY ARE USUALLY POT METAL OR WHITE METAL = JUNK METAL AND THEN PLATED IN
A CHROME TO REPRESENT SILVER OR PLATED WITH A GOLD WASH - DONT KNOW IF ITS THE PIC OR NOT
BUT I SEE GOLDISH COLORING AND GREY SHOWING THRU HERE AND THERE - SOUVENIR COPY
YOU CAN FIND THEM IN GIFT STORES ALL OVER THE CARRIBEAN AND FLA.

If you spit on it, and wrap it in tin foil for a little bit, then open it, and it smells like rotten eggs, you have silver.

Or... you just have terrible breath. In which case, you have halitosis. :laughing7:
