Good evening everyone
What a great weekend . My girlfriends family is from a small coal mining town in Virginia . All the children have relocated over the years to NC . However the family still owns there very small coal miner homes . We decided to take the three 1/2 hour drive and see if we could find some family history . The grand parents of both her parents worked in the coal mines in the early 1900’s.
We arrived Saturday morning and begin our search. First hole a 1918 penny, second a nice what I believe is a world war 1 button. I had told my girlfriend I would love to find some coal mining history on our drive up and was not disappointed. The next hole a large coal miners tag #34 in the far corner of the front yard. We were both excited. Then I got the honey hole. Pulled 5 tags from this hole including the match #34 large tag and two small #34 and two awesome identification check tags both # 118. A bit latter two more tags with matching but different numbers P2R0. In total 8 tags were found! Was able to confirm that the grandfather had indeed worked at the Stonega Coke & Coal Co
We will be having all the tags , button and coin framed.

Preserving history for future generations is a great thing. As detectorists we have an opportunity to contribute to the understanding of our past. Framing your finds is a great idea. Keep up the good work, stay safe and keep swingin.
