Hey guys,

While searching along a river in Charleston, SC I stumbled upon this old clay pipe. Any thoughts as to age/origins? Thanks for the help

Looks Indian to me, probably older than 300 years and newer than 3000 years. You could move it to the artifact forum and get a little more information.

I do NOT think it is Native American. Dating clay pipes is tricky business but there is plenty of information on-line to assist.

Awesome find !! , Take a look at the stem for drill marks or threads. Is the bowl smooth or does it have scars from being drilled out with a flint tool maybe ? Close up Pictures of the interior of the bowl might help to ID ! I'm proud for you. Great find regardless!! I almost had a stroke when I found my first one in a Indian camp ground on the Cimarron Strip in Oklahoma! It was only a one toker, but man I'm proud of it! I hope yours turns out to be be Native American! I'll send pictures of mine soon and we can compare notes!! The Kid:thumbsup:

Here are a few more pictures- the construction looks to clean to be an Indian artifact. Given the smooth, larger bore of the pipe stem, I believe it may be an early stub stem clay pipe variant from from the 17th/18th century.
