Relic Hunting
I have wanted to go Civil War relic hunting since I was about 12…finally got the opportunity 40 years plus later! I got the opportunity to search a CW battle site with previous finds having been made by my digging partner and gracious host. I went in with low expectations. To me a big WIN would be to find an identifiable Civil War bullet. The area we were searching was a battlefield with permission on private property of course. I have only been really detecting for about 3 years so I dug everything! My digging partner pulled 2 flattened bullets early on. For about and hour I dug nails, pull tabs and other junk. Then I got a deep signal and right up against a rock I pulled out from what I originally thought was part of the rock was a Williams Cleaner type III bullet. Half flattened but no doubt about it! Laying undisturbed for nearly 160 years was my FIRST Civil War relic! I was and am very happy with it. After savoring the moment and sharing the news with my partner and family through pictures I moved on along the same line. Not much further on I pulled out a .44 caliber Colt revolver bullet also fired. After heavily photographing it and continuing on I pulled out 3 other fired minnie balls. I can’t say enough how much fun I had finally having the long awaited Civil War relic hunting experience! I am hoping some of the experienced CW diggers can help with a question I have on the .44 Colt bullet. On the bottom of the bullet it appears to have a casting flaw, been drilled out, damaged by being fired or something different is going on with it. Has anyone seen this before or know what caused this hole in the bottom of the bullet? Anyway thank you for any thoughts on it. Thank you all for looking and big thank you to my digging partner that made this day possible!

Very Cool!!! Congrats!!!

Pretty awesome isn't it? Holding something in your hand that you know, without a shadow of a doubt, was last handled during the civil war. I'm happy you had such fun and congratulations on your bullets!
Heartily agree! I was literally shaking and short of breath holding it! I keep thinking I am going to wake up and it was just an incredible dream!
