Metal Detecting
It’s been hard to find time to detect here lately between work, work and more work. I managed to get approval from my lady to dig for 3 hours today. I knocked but got shot down at three houses and dug for a few at a church playground. Only found a heavy lead ingot and some modern coins. I moved on to a school yard that had an old house there before. Previously me and bladerunner2020 had dug a couple old coins and a pile of trash. I showed up with about 30 min left to dig and found my first cw buckle on the second hole! There was a square nail about 3” down and the buckle was another 2” below that. The hooks are intact but the pin (or whatever it’s called) was below the buckle. At least I think that’s what it is. I was thinking this was trash till I got it out the hole and wiped the dirt away to expose the “US”. What a great thanksgiving! I fed and visited the family this year, took a 9 point buck and now this! Wow.

Not gonna lie, that stings a bit. I was just at that spot a couple days earlier and missed this. :icon_pale: In fact, I think I remember seeing that root. :laughing7:

Congrats on a great find! You've had a heck of a year.

I'll nominate you for find of the month in our group. :laughing7:

Thanks... since you couldn’t find it, I’m glad I did! Lol. It’s a big place... maybe there’s another one. Lol. I don’t know how old that house was before they tore it down but I wonder what a union buckle was doing in rebel turf? I’m unaware of any squirmishes in the area.

Yea, so far we haven't seen any other evidence of a skirmish. You never know though. I'm guessing it was from the owners of the house that was there.

When I was there, I spent most of my time in the woods and in the lower field. No luck in either.

What a great save!!! COngrats:icon_thumleft:

Good you got turned down 3 times thats the charm Those are great relics Ill never find one here but ya never know Good job

Despite the rough start I’m thankful those people turned me down now for sure.

Congrats on finding a nice US belt plate! Glad you could get out.

That’s a beautiful piece of history right there. Wow! Congrats!

Thanks y’all. I was in total shock when I dug it.

Sometimes you find them where you least expect...

Got one of these plates a number of years back at a random cellar hole in central NY.

Congrats on a great piece of history!!!!

That is the ultimate prize for most detectorists...a CW buckle.

Nicely done, sir!
