>:( As a disclaimer.... Never enter any sewer pipe or storm drain! >:(

I never went inside any pipe or drain to recover any of these finds. I did hunt the huge pile of sand in the ditch at the end of the five foot diameter culvert that runs the length of the town. All the finds were set aside until they could be washed and cleaned, as are all my finds. :)

The storm drain (no sewage, only storm water) is the main line for most of the city. It runs the length of the town and ends in a ditch. The ditch then runs across the outside of town and connects to the smaller ditch that drains the rest of the city and never connects to the sewage treatment plant. ;)

digemall, I know you take care, but there are some out there that don't understand how the storm and sanitary sewer systems work and I did not want to see anyone hurt or killed.? I was afraid some of our more adventuresome folk might try going down in a manhole if they find it open.? It happens all the time.? I use to be quite adventursome myself in my youth and may have tried something like that out of sheer ignorance but thank God I survived long enough to learn better!? JIM aka KS

Yeah, I understand Jim. I should have thought to put that disclaimer out there from the get-go. I know exactly what you mean about "explorers" as I was once one myself! I just wanted to give some folks a general idea as to a place to get started. Thanks for catching that for me and putting it out there!

How's the new pinpointer? Leon is a heck of guy ain't he? Need more of this kind around! I am getting tired of sifting handfuls of dirt myself. I already put the call in to my "Santa" for one! Now let's see if I can wait that long. Was wondering something along this same line. Seeing as how I hunt wet washes with my Cobra, you think I could take a pinpointer and put it in a large Zip-Lock bag or something similar and dunk it underwater? Or is there a waterproof pinpointer out there? Have you been to the beach lately?

Thanks to" Leon" I am back in business! Now I don't have to run my fingers down and feel around the hole, where I found some broken glass once, by the way! Other than the club hunt I haven't been back to the beach. Thanks for asking! JIM

Neat idea! Research and "thinking outside the box" ( I HATE trite phrases) pay off again...GREAT job! Check out the waterproof pin-pointers from SunRay...I think that'll be my gift to myself this year <smile>.

Heck, some of our more adventuresome folk might remove the cover.

I can just see the post....." I was THing in an old park when my detector got a hit on a large object right at the surface. I started to dig down and found that it was the largest coin I had ever seen! It was easily 3' wide and 2" thick and must have weighed 200 lbs! It must be one of those coins issued by a city way back before the Revolutionary War as it was stamped," My City, Disc.", and no date. I got some help and loaded it into the back of my truck and will get it appraised next week at the Crook Brothers Jewelers". "There appeared to be a cave beneath the huge coin as all I could see was dark and a real bad odor! I'll go back next week and see how deep the cave is but for now I covered it with brush to hide it. I think I have seen several of these big coins around town but just can't seem to place them". Lune A tick.......JIM
