as i have previously mentioned, i am in China. i am currently in a small town right in the centre and i have to say that i have had one of the most amazing experiences here.
we have found a collection of books, stone tablets, vases and 2 padlocks. they had been hidden through the revolution wrapped in old newspaper, underneath a house, and were unwrapped today by the owner, myself and a friend.

one or two of the books are written by Confucius. (i actually held it in my hands 7 hours ago. cannot stop smiling :D) the paper is amazingly thin. some of them have disintegrated though. one of the stone tablets is around 2000 years old. another book is an original traditional chinese medicine book. there are two candleholders, one with two elephants on it and four mice drinking out of the cup on the top. really beautiful.

i am going back on Saturday to take photos. if anyone is interested, i will post them here. i dont know if anyone's interest expands to China. i havent read any posts on it.
let me know!

Pics pics and more pics! Sounds awsome!

hey, couldn't maxxchina get in real trouble by not turning these finds over to the government? i don't know all the laws there, but i think any artifacts belong to the gov. and if you don't comply, prison is in your future... any body know...????????
H.hoping maxxchina is o.k. H. searcher

they have gone to the government. don't feel like getting shot this week. ha ha ha...
but i am able to go and take the photos after they have been cleaned, before they go off the the museum. tomorrow morning i will be heading out to the city do this.
i made nothing from it, of course. but it is still really worth it.

We were begining to wonder if you were now in some chinese gulag with a 500 pound ex-Sumo cell mate named 微小 ! (yes, I know sumo is from Japan) I can't wait to see the pics! HH omnicognic? 8)

the photos... Got them!!!
i tried to post them but each image is too big. if you PM me i will send you an invite to a yahoo photo album. unless anyone can suggest another way?

yeah, I think the I'd be carrying around one great big digging permit with me where ever I went...

no digging unless you're a farmer!!! all the land is government owned anyway, it is leased rather than sold. we found these in an old fridge. well, a hole in the ground that was used to keep meats etc cool. dug deep and has a concrete slab over the top. most courtyard houses still use them and it was pure luck.
funny what you find in your fridge...

Max.... put the URL on here, if you don't mind, it will save you a lot of time and work.

I've been in Jinhua, Zhejiang Provence for about 4 months and wish I had brought my metal detector! There are zillions of places to use one discreetly and the whole country seems to be virgin territory. Right now the river that runs through Jinhua is very low and sandbars and mudflats are exposed and dry! Of course I wouldn't be able to keep anything dated before 1800 without permission, but it would be a real kick to find ancient stuff! The Chinese are very curious about foreigners and I'd have to watch for opportunities when there were few people about or I'd be surrounded by onlookers.
