as i have previously mentioned, i am in China. i am currently in a small town right in the centre and i have to say that i have had one of the most amazing experiences here.
we have found a collection of books, stone tablets, vases and 2 padlocks. they had been hidden through the revolution wrapped in old newspaper, underneath a house, and were unwrapped today by the owner, myself and a friend.

one or two of the books are written by Confucius. (i actually held it in my hands 7 hours ago. cannot stop smiling :D) the paper is amazingly thin. some of them have disintegrated though. one of the stone tablets is around 2000 years old. another book is an original traditional chinese medicine book. there are two candleholders, one with two elephants on it and four mice drinking out of the cup on the top. really beautiful.

i am going back on Saturday to take photos. if anyone is interested, i will post them here. i dont know if anyone's interest expands to China. i havent read any posts on it.
let me know!
Max

HOLA MAX:? I just found your posts, loved them.

I have had a love affair with China since the mid 40's when I was there. I was basically at old Tsingtao - I had a home just above the race track on the hill, the 3 floor one on? the slope -? From there i went all over China, from The Shensi Pyramids in the south east to the Great wall.

I spent weeks inside of the forbidden city in Peking, it was fascinating since I was not escorted anywhere.? The present political party was about to take Peking? so? no-one cared.? I could have stolen priceless artifacts if I had been? so inclined.

I usually stayed at the old Wagon lits hotel when in Peking.

Once we flew From Tsingao to Tsinan following old railroad.? ?We surprised the present political party about to launch an attack against Chiang's forces.? We flew low, 25 ft. , waving and accidentally broke up the attack by scattering the pack animals.? The Nationalists ordered their entire Air force to shoot us down upon sight since it was about to? create? an international incident, but they missed us.? I had to turn over all of? my pictures, sigh.

Incidentally, when I l left Peking as the opposing forces took it, they put many holes in My? aircraft, sheesh, upset?

I left many friends there, many? did not do so well.

I would love to talk to you about your finds and the thieves market in Peking etc.

p.s .I would love to return to continue exploring eastern China again, the Gobi region, sigh.

I am now a legitimate explorer since I have been elected into membership by the elite Exploreres Club for explorations in other areas..

HIO MAX, CAPT FF, I apologize for the flippancy but I couldn't resist.

An actual book by Confucius is impossible to calculate as to it' value, either financially or intellectually.

Can you imagine the impact if someone were to find a manuscript actually written by JESUS?

Keep us posted? ?;D

Great finds there China!

And would you do me a big favor? Tell the guys here that China really does make quality metal detectors.

I've never been able to convince them myself.

Thanks again.
