Ceramic/porcelain doll legs

Came across these in storage yesterday. One of my earliest finds: around 1967. Evidently used as fill when installing a septic tank. They were found while digging up in the old tank, along with misc broken household items. No idea if they can be fully identified. I was 9 years old and already had the need to preserve items of history. I guess it is genetic.

The smaller leg has a number 2 on it.

I’ve found doll legs, arms and even a head. All were found on the surface at old farm sites while I was looking for arrowheads.

These weren’t extremely deep. I am surprised the annual frost didn’t break them.

I found a leg like the larger one in this corner of a field I walk to. It was surly a place the folks of the late 19th early 20th would dump their no longer needed. There you'll find old crockery, pieces of glass bottles, marbles, clock parts, harmonica reeds, pieces of cast iron toys and porcelain and bisque dolly parts. One piece of porcelain doll I found was the back of the head with a number on it. I Googled Porcelain Doll and that number and came up with an image of the complete doll. It was from the 1870s from Germany. For about 600 years Germany was the king of the world for kids toys.

The dolls they produced were from the cheap little bisque miniature ones all the way to ones made for the little rich girls. Im thinking your legs originated from Germany post Civil War.

Cool finds. I would think Victorian and most likely made in Germany. There’s a similar leg to the larger of yours found at the historic Innis House in Fredericksburg (built between 1856 and 1861).
