How To Deal With People

Imagine the progress that could be achieved in Humanity.
It is so great it is almost as impossible to comprehend as the vastness of space. If every dollar we have spent on every war and every great mind engineering weapons to destroy ourselves were put to use for all of us, I believe we’d be hopping over to Pluto for lunch, or vacationing on Mars, or having dinner at the bottom of the ocean in a new Atlantis.

Some nice sentiments being expressed,,,,:icon_thumright: but what makes you think that progress is necessary, or indeed beneficial to humanity..?
Progress for the sake of progress... is a trap.
Progress has increased control over us, has limited humankind in the guise of 'convenience '.
Progress may be made spontaneously and with the right intent/mindset it will indeed add something to our experience of this reality but, i feel, progress as a driving force behind our civilisation is actually the biggest problem that we experience collectively.
People will cite advances in medicine, for example, as progress,,,,but a deeper understanding will show that these were needed to correct ailments that were generated by progress, albeit 'earlier' in nature.
Statistics can be thrown about and manipulated to suit needs, but are we really better off due to supposed progress???

I believe we began to get collectively dumber, when they started eliminating winning and losing in children's sports.
trying not to hurt anyone's feelings, everyone is a winner.
No one is smarter than the rest, everyone should feel good.
BS!!
We can't all be smart, so let's just dumb it down a bit, and everyone will be happy.
The idea that hard work pays off has been lost.

I don’t think it is necessary and only a small part of it seems beneficial to me (like travel and medical). But it is human nature it seems so I accept it for what it is and think of the things we could accomplish. Personally, I’d be content to roll back the clock a couple of hundred years, living off the land and in the mountains.

Knowing how to talk With others, not TO others, whom have different ideas and beliefs,
without raising your voice or putting down their viewpoints,
And, being open to their beliefs, is paramount in reaching an equitable understanding of new ideas and civil discussion.

If only this tenet was practiced by all in their discourse.....
Imagine the progress that could be achieved in Humanity.
But, with a Psychology degree, what do I know?

Scott
Aye.
But as one movie character put it , his (their ) beliefs are his beliefs.
[Jeremiah Johnson: Del Gue, I don't think this is a good idea. Del Gue: He may be a Christian and talk white; but he's still an Indian and his rules is his rules.]
.
We have to know people have beliefs more than we need to know their beliefs.
To start.

A much younger me was invited to a chrism mass.
Big deal right? Not just anyone invited. (Remember the importance that status meant to inspire attending..)

Old Father on the sidewalk in front of the modest cathedral greeting passers by and arrivers.
My small group neared as he greeted some local youths with brown paper bags shaped like large beers on their way by.

"We're having a mass , come inside" was the gist of his invite.

No thank you one said , but say a prayer for me Father.

And the Padre's answer has always stuck with me since in such matters as rank or importance of creed or color or status...

" I'll say a prayer for you. If you'll pray for me."

That old man had it right.

The church is it's people.
A society is it's people.
A portion of a society is still it's people.
When someone faulters or is dumbstruck ; it isn't the time to evaluate them as if their best day is based upon their worst day.
Or else when it is our turn to be confused as to if we are going up the stairs or down the stairs , how should we be dealt with?

Long ago a wise man explained my ancestors didn’t have churches or a sabbath day, yet we still worshipped. Many are shocked to learn that and I can’t even count the number of times I’ve been asked “you pray?”

I was raised differently, but when I offer prayers to someone I do so in the way I believe they would pray themselves. It doesn’t change my beliefs or lessen my commitment to my ways. It is simply respect.

We would lose a lot of the population if we had to live off the land. If I survived I would open a general store.

Certain people influenced the world with their own selfish reasons.
2 part 1 minute version of one of these people.

It's all a trick of the senses... Reality
A very bright, beautiful and involving illusion, but an illusion nonetheless.
