sounds like a plan , just curious what places would you hunt ? the town has a history dating back to the mid 1800s so there should be some nice spots . can you enter buildings ? or are they private or city property . there must be old cellar holes as well . Also if anyone is willing to travel to Wayne or Pike county north east PA or Sullivan county NY . I found a few good spots deep in the woods dating back to the colonial period, only requirement must be able to hike an hour or more deep in the sticks , moderately ruff terrain . But well worth it :icon_pirat: Also found a nice spot next to the Hudson river about a half hour drive north of Newburgh NY ,

Any Buildings standing Must be avoided.
even if Empty.
and No trespassing Signs Respected.

These people who's homes are standing are the Holdouts.
They Love their Town & their Property.
They Faught The government for their right to stay & won.
They deserve respect for that.
Even IF they have Recently died & their home is still Standing,
They May have relatives.

You will not find celler holes.

When the homes & Buisnesses were Bought out
they were Bulldozed into themselves.

As people die off the homes get Demolished.

Best spots would be back yards
especially under large old trees where
the ground is obviously not Disturbed.

Thanks all,

Both for the directions and the tips. Sounds like it's gonna be a grand day. :coffee2:

I've been looking at some old aerials of the area from the 30's I think. Some pretty obvious grassy areas even then...probably a community park or something. Hard to tell, the pictures are somewhat grainy. Now all i got to do is somehow overlay it to something current like google earth to see where they are now.....if I get the time. Still putting this place together I just moved into.

Not sure how Recent Google is.
This is the best I could do Comparing the Map

I live about 10 + miles from Centralia, and been there a zillion times so my honest opinion..........Are 16 + guys congregating at one spot gonna cause attention............maybe? probably, but IMO nothing to worry about. There has been detectorists there before and will be in the future. There are about a half dozen homes still there and ya might see some cops pass through, but I don't think they will bother us.

PS: Some incentive..................found my first ever Seated Liberty (dime) coin at Centralia in the back yard next to a big friggin' tree. Never forget that one, was a 1891. But don't forget, this is coal country, and Centralia is sitting on hot rocks, so detectorist beware.

thanks for the info,a seated liberty is one good looking coin, they sure are nice to find... look forward to meeting all the guys and girls if any show up..been waiting for a hunt close enough to go too,a very good spot at that!!!

2 years ago the yellow circled area still had some smoking holes in it. we did find a few nice fern fossils on some burnt shale.

Looking forward to the 22

as Rich said police will go through.
& will patrol where we are meeting
looking for off roaders.

Just remember This is Pennsylvania coal Country.
in Most cases you Get what your willing to Give.

If somone; Police or Citizen walks up to you treat them
as somone you are happy to see. Ask Questions of the area,
Don't act mysterious. act like you belong there. but don't act like they don't.
if anyone including Police
say you have to share your Finds with them, Smile pull out some trash
and say "Sure ! which ones you Want ?" :D
