The bottom right looks like a picture of a caped crusader or peglegged pirate behind the ink bottle. I didnt notice until I closed one eye and tilted my head to the right.

Hopefully it's good harmless fun (and Sanura Kaniik is a hottie!).

Wouldn't the coin then say "King"?

I use to work with a proud Italian who insisted the Romans had invented everything and my Irish boss used to occasionally mind him: "Ethiopia kicked your a$$". :boxing:

I have see this coin I will try to locate my old records from Italy. All handwritten and in boxes as I only had a Apple II back then.

The "shield" symbol reminds me of the Peruvian national symbol on late 19th-early 20th century coinage.... :icon_scratch:

Best,
Scott

addendum:
The "shield" symbol also reminds me of the image on Arizona tax tokens.

Even though the womans image looks African, I think its a complete fantasy coin, unless you found it 20 years ago.

My research came across a website called Shire Post Mint. http://www.shirepost.com/ It states:
Dedicated to the principle of making fantasy realms tangible
through the creation of small everyday artifacts, such as buttons, coins, and stamps,
that help us form a "sense of place".
http://www.shirepost.com/broadbottom.html

I dont know what type of "sense of place" he is looking for ??? but his fantasy creations are going to be very hard to ID. He also makes coins for fundraisers worthy causes and organizations. http://www.shirepost.com/ONSC.html

He also states: The term "fantasy coin" is a technically precise term in numismatics... referring to items that appear to be a coin, but which were not actually issued by any real-world authority as a medium of exchange. For our purposes however, we extend the use of the term a bit further... to cover coinages FROM fantasy worlds, including those which are mythological or fictional, and even coin fantasies that comemmorate historical events that might-have-been... places that surely somehow exist in the infinite multiverse! You will not find coins bearing the images of film characters here... but rather the coins that those characters might have been carrying in their pocketses! The premise of this effort is that coins provide for us a TACTILE sense of time and place.... something we can touch and handle. It is to this goal of making history, mythology, and fantasy seem more real that we dedicate our labors. The buttons are an adjunct to coining and assist in making costumes and garb that emulate the ideas we love. Enjoy!

How many fantasy coins/tokens/buttons is he creating? I think its very posasible this token falls into the category of "fantasy world".

daroofa da man :headbang:

In a speech given by Her
Majesty Queen Lira VII,
the Crown has made public
news of the most extraordinary
import: a new continent,
previously unknown
to the modern world, has
been discovered across the
ocean to the west of Talus.
A little over five years ago,
a combined fleet of steamships
and airships was
organized under the strictest
secrecy and departed on
an exploratory journey

It took me two seconds to find the correlation - well done daroofa

I suspect this will get to be a long thread... LOL

I have to admit, I dont understand all this fantasy stuff but daroofas research is the best we got. Did someone write to them?

Securities Exchange
has surged in recent
months, spurred by tremendous
advances in industry,
the opening of new markets
to Lirian goods and a
strengthening Queen’s
Ounce.

My young son has one of these exact coins. I suspect the guess about the Steampunk RPG is right- while it is possible he may have picked it up at an SCA event, we were at the Arisia con which had a steampunk theme. Both in MA.

I found this thread because I was curious what it was and searched the web to find out and thus came here. I appreciate the research and ideas you have put forth.
