A lot of words to Google here. :icon_thumright: Something should turn up for those that have the time and patience to search the words in different combinations..

Heres the image resized. What is that bottom right image?

I'm thinking this is the latest addition in the "pignuts" catagory! :help:

Here's a Italian 200 Lire from the 70s/80s. Shares the cogwheel/gear design aspect and might be about the same size/composition...?

Italia_200_lire.JPG

Composition Aluminum-Bronze
Edge type Milled
Shape Round
Alignment Coin (180°)
Weight (gr) 5
Diameter (mm) 24
Thickness (mm) 1.64

I'm still thinking this is a made up toy coin but it sure would be nice to find another one out there somewhere.

Maybe it does have something to do with beekeeping and science of it.

Check out this article on Wiki...that 8000 year old cave painting sure kinda resembles that bottom right corner item in the shield. Bottom left maybe a smoke pot, top right a bee, top left a bee cell and the pick represents maybe digging or building a hive???

And maybe...just maybe the "1 Queen'n ounce"....and ounce of honey and bank of Lira is some beekeepers token of some sort.

A far stretch but....
Just a possible direction to confuse you even more... :dontknow:

Very interesting theories to go along with the beehive hairdo. There have been a lot of bee items found over the years by TN members that have not been IDed..

Southie, is there any way we could get high resolution close ups of the 4 images?

I'm thinking along the lines of Mack & BCH in that the woman's hair-do is called a Bee Hive, and it's probably some 'mammy made' coin from a group like the SCA. Some of these reenactment groups can get obsessive/compulsive, so I wouldn't be surprised if it were their personal mintage. Or it could be some company token promoting business. I think we need to continue to research this one.

WELCOME
to the forum and you're right, it is a GREAT place to be!

This may be waaaaay off base, but you could contact this company in MA to see if they ever made any 'tokens' to promote their business.

Also another avenue: Lira could be a person's name.

Try this group..they run a steam punk role playing group out of MA. They have a Queen Lira and they're game currency is the Queen's Ounce. If you click the Event Info tab on this page, you'll see they use the cogwheel to mark map locations. Might not amount to anything, but I'd send them a pic and see what they say.

Also, if you look at some of the issues under the Rules tab, they have in in game newspaper....

From Issue 1:

"By decree of the Trade Sovereignty Act all formal commerce conducted within or originating from territory or demesne of the Lirian Empire must be transacted in Queen’s Ounces."

When I ran PROGRESSIO SCIENTIA DEVOTIO through a language translator for Latin it came up with DAMN SCIENCE GOING FORWARD.

scientia: knowledge, science, skill
progressio: advance, progress, increase.
devotio: (Christian) piety, devotion, zeal.
