Hi guys.
Today i found this three boxes. I posted a thread quickly to have an idea what they could because i was afraid they were explosives but nobody answered so i couldn't wait and i opened one of them. It was a yellow material. It looked almost like a yellow brick whith one hole in the middle and another on the top. The same holes are in the metal box. Can it be explosive. If yes i have to call the police.
Thank you.

Well the empty boxes by themselves are harmless, and in good condition will have some collector interest since I'd imagine they are somewhat scarce... I would wash them out with soap and water to get rid of any residue though. The explosive blocks themselves are probably an explosive called "Amatol" and I would definitely call the authorities about those so they can be properly disposed of.

The blasters took them away. Later came the journalists. The blasters said that the range of the explosion could be 300 meters.

I think it's certain that the items you've found are indeed 3kg Sprengbüchse charges. They could contain either TNT or a picric acid charge. Judging from the color and texture of the contents in your photo I'd say it is indeed a picric acid charge. With that said, DO NOT tamper with it any further!! Just like TNT will eventually sweat nitroglycerin when it gets old, the picric acid will sweat out of the casting. While some of the brown marks appear to be from rust, some appear to be just such sweating. It is HIGHLY reactive to even mild friction thereby setting it off.

When I was in the military stationed in the Marianas Islands I found out about picric acid charges from a U.S. Navy EOD team. They were the ummmm, guys that were called to my barracks room when my stuff was being packed for transfer. I had found a bunch of demil'ed and disassembled 20mm Japanese mortar shells on one of the northern islands. I pieced a really nice one back together and had kept it in my room for over a year. It was completely empty except for a few small flecks that looked like dirty plaster of paris inside the nose. People used to freak when they saw it until I told them it was empty. They'd unscrew the nose and look inside to see. The EOD guys told me that remaining flecks were the picric acid charge and there was enough there to blow my room up. They also said the mere friction of unscrewing the nose could have set it off had the charge sweated onto the threads. YIKES!!!!

If i knew this before!! When i found them i imediately posted it on the forum so i could have an idea but nobody answered me. So i took the risk and i opened one of them. Maybe i was lucky that nothing happened.

If you found 3 of them, there's a possibility there could be more in the same area. Are the authorities going to MD the area to check for others?

I have MD the area very well. Here maybe there were some bushes and i couldn't Md or maybe i had this high tone but i didn't want to dig. Now i remember another point where i had the same high long tone that i didn't dig.

Vince I saw your original post right after it went up. Unfortunately the initial pictures I saw weren't sufficient to ID anything very well. Sorry I couldn't have added anything sooner. I am happy you're safe and have made the area safer for others! Overall...good job!!!

I would think certain divisions of the government would be crawling all over that area now. You did a great job of posting and contacting the authorities. I'm glad you are safe, and have made that area a safer place. I can only imagine what could have happened with landscaping, bulldozing, or the likes.

I hope you don't mind, but here's the basic translation for those of us who don't speak Italian:

Found eslosivo of World War II to the Park of Monza
"

When a citizen of Albanian origin than forty years he started walking in the Park of Monza with his metal detector in search of some valuable coin or forgotten did not think to come face to face with two suitcases of explosives presumably dating back to the second war world.

The discovery was made a few days ago when the "seeker", a resident of Nova Milanese, found an unusual presence in the soil around the pond of Sighs within the Park of Monza. The man dug and found two suitcases inside with some loaves of explosives. Before you become really realize what he had in his hands the forties came home and did a quick search on the web in an effort to figure out what it could handle. It 'was at that point, when he realized that they have to deal with two suitcases of explosives, perhaps dating back to World War II, who called 112 and said: "There are two bombs to the Park of Monza."

On site Friday morning were made by the police of the Romagna Avenue police station who have secured the area and the team of Bomb the police headquarters in Milan. The staff of the State Police has taken the material that will be blown up. The two suitcases containing explosives lacked a detonator then the 'bombs' were not capable of exploding.

I love the translated phrase: "loaves of explosives".
Not really sure why?

Do you believe that i called the police saying : there are two bombs on the park!!
I just called them and said maybe i found some old explosive.

basically German issued WW2 era 6.6 lb ( 3 kg) early version of plastic explosives ...has a blast range of about 3 football fields --1000 yards (300 meters) thankfully the detonators were not in place ... still could have been "shock" triggered

Something is always lost in the translation-

Point being, you did a great job with this and we are happy you didn't suffer being blasted over the moon.
