Hi - I posted this in Tech section as well. Thought it might be seen by more here.

Anyone have any experience rebuilding batteries for Explorer (and similar designed) packs? I have one that doesn't take a full charge or hold one for long. Is it possible to open the pack and replace the cells with standard rechargable AA NiMh cells from Eveready, Duracell, etc, wired in series?

I opened mine to atempt a rebuild, however the contacts are soldered on to the batteries. So I saw it as a nonrebuildable item. You would have to either solder them in or devise a spring mechanism to hold them, Like the regular battery packs do. I buy the big 50 packs of bats at BJ's and just use the regular battery packs and always carry extras.

You can rebuild but like nutso said you need to solder the new batterys in in series and have a solder iron and solder and flux. You can buy the replacement batterys on line anywhere just determine size type and you should be all set. remeber to check proper terminal + and - to do it. Good luck. HH
