I’ve had this site on my mind for several years now due to how badly I’ve wanted to detect here. Well on Thursday I decided to stop for another look-see and noticed the property manager walking the site, so I got out of my truck and approached him. I explained to him about my passion for local history and the hobby of metal detecting.

I asked if it would be alright if I detected here and he said, “he didn’t have an issue with me detecting the property” … yes!!! So, I got right to work and for the next 2hrs I dug 2 – LC’s and a silver quarter. I decided that I needed to take advantage of the balmy 3c November weather here in Ontario and returned for another 6hrs yesterday.

One of my favourite finds was the ink bottle poking out of the dirt under a cedar fence bordering the site. Some of the other finds were two silver dimes and a quarter, five Large cents and a ‘36 Penny. I also found a child’s sterling silver ‘Good Luck’ ring, a gold plated hefty brass man’s ring, a ‘Toronto 1921’ pin back, ten US ‘Wheat’ Pennies and 20+ pre-1952 King George Pennies.

I’m planning on heading back again on Sunday morning, that is if we don’t get too much snow overnight! :laughing7:

Thanks for looking,
Dave

Great job jumping on an opportunity when it presented itself buddy. One thing I’ve learned is that things rarely offer themselves up for us. If a river is lower than it’s been in 100 years you best detect it. If some dirt is moved on an old site you best hunt it. If you see a property owner out and about that’s your chance. These chance opportunities are usually much more natural and successful than what seems like a great plan of attack. Lots of great targets pal. Hope to see lots mire
Thanks very much for your post and for your words of support Abe! :occasion14:
As you know, it's not always this easy to get a permission, I too have reservations about 'cold call' door knocking on folks.
I just hate it when strangers come to my door, as it automatically makes me suspicious of their intentions and puts my guard up.

But when people are outside, for some reason they seem much more open and approachable to me.

Best of luck to you buddy,
Dave

Now that`s the way to get a new permission way to go !
So many nice finds and Silver...place seems to be loaded and a very nice looking old school .
Gary

Thanks for posting Gary!
I've been back twice since I made this initial post and will post my second hunt there shortly.
