This post was revived when IronPatch found a match for the back of the LION button. I welcome any thoughts or ideas on this lion button. Thanks, Breezie

Original Post:
Hey folks, Attached are 5 pics of some buttons I dug in a yard where I have found CW items as well as a 16th century buckle. I have close ups of the first 3. The lion button is most unusual. Button #2 seems to have a circle with lines running through it. Button #3 is made out of some type of metal, which could be lead, I'm not sure. Any help with any or all would certainly be appreciated. Happy Friday! Breezie

If it's glass I'm going to say mid to late 1800's I've dug buttons with glass in the center in civil war camps but am not sure how early they started making them I would guess no earlier than the late 1830's. Unless someone can ID the piece in the center as some kind of company logo or something I'd say it's a button to a shirt or dress.

It is quite a fancy button, and I forgot to mention the little do-dads around the edge are raised. I wish someone could recognize both the symbol on the back of #1 and on the face of #2. Thanks, Breezie

The symbol looks familiar but I cant remember. I keep thinking early radio.

hopefully someone will know. If I find out anything on any of them I'll let you know.
Sorry I can't be of more help on these.
If the symbol on the button is an early radio logo forget what I said about the button being 1800's. :dontknow: :dontknow:

I drew the symbol as best as I could see. Hopefully this will help someone, it didn't help me! Breezie

Hmm.. Similar to the one of the astrological symbols for Uranus..

Forget what I said about radio. I really cant remember where I saw this logo. I might be just confusing the resemblance to the Bakelite style. radio bakelite.webp

It does look like the symbol for Uranus, minus the extra circle. BCH, I feel like I've seen this symbol too, but I've looked in old radio stuff, but nothing connected. Breezie

Found one just like it a few weeks ago and thought it was a fancy washer. Is something missing or how would it function as a button :icon_scratch:

I'll bet it's a washer. I saw Breezie's but it didn't click until I saw yours. I think I have some of the washer in my shop if so I'll post a pic later if you all want.

Thanks vayank54. I think you're right that it's a washer.

No mine has same front and back.

Since mine is smooth and yours has lines, wonder if both are washers or one washer/the other button? Breezie

But wouldn't something still be missing in order for it to work as a button?

I think some of those washers have lines one one side and some on both depending on the vehicle. They are always copper though as the copper is soft and will compress and seal the fitting between the wheel cylinder and the hose.

Yep you are correct. Those are copper brake line crush washers. I remember replacing my brake line, but I cant seem to find a pic of one online. Maybe the lines are pressed into it from tightening.

I looked and didn't have any. There could be one side flat from tightening. I think the wheel cylinder is flat, where the washer hits on it, on all vehicles. I know the fitting at the hose is always grooved though. I'm pretty certain that's what you all have are washers
