Buttons, a Bayonet & 15 crusty coppers!

As we try to do, we dug plenty, but "I" didn't get over anything too great. The bayonet isn't quite all there but it's a first so is cool. I always like a early seals, they popped up out of nowhere, did not expect them where we were as almost everything was 1800s. Too bad the coins are brutal condition but it was fun finding them. The 1813 Trade & Navigation will be very nice once cleaned. The second last coin is a Sheffield Penny Token. The last I'm guessing an early 1800s Reis but I haven't tried to match it yet. Others are a George III Hibernia, 1830 Halfpenny token, another Trade & Navigation, George II Farthing, Halifax Halfpenny, 1812 Halfpenny, stamped Halfpenny (I) ... and a few more all not worth showing closer.

Next hunt is early next week, hope the weather hangs on!

That penny token is really good condition

Yep, and it will be better too. It's definitely one of the nicest I have found. Really strange considering how bad the other coppers are eaten.

Must have been the soil conditions was it in clay?

No, ploughed field near salt water. I think it's a combination of a lot of things.

Just different taste and trust me, what I condsider great doesn't happen too often so I am pleased with the bayonet and seal.
what about the masssive pile of buttons and coins ?

It was fun but crusty coins and plain buttons are pretty common here. I'd rather find one good marked military than 1000 plain ones.

Sell the plain ones at a buck each and you got $1,000- the same price tag as a good military.
LOL
I guess since I started getting into back marks, I appreciate the plain ones more.
I was a little disappointed when this fall I got a cache of 26 large coat buttons with trace of fabric in the hole and next to an oak tree. They were all "Rich Imperial Colour" which is the most common back marked F.B. out here. Why couldn't they have been something better!
Nice haul you got there! Those coppers are still nice. It's all good in my books!
Dave.

Not to bad of shape for some of those tokies and will clean up nicely. That seal rocks and wish could dig a few around here like that!!

Re: Buttons, a Bayonet & 15 crusty coppers!

Those are some great looking coppers! Probably the ones you aren't showing close ups are pretty sweet by our standards.

If you know somewhere to move plain flat buttons for a buck a piece by all means let me know!

$1,000 button is a pretty good button especially with relics dropping off in the last few years.

Re: Buttons, a Bayonet & 15 crusty coppers!

IP! nice digs man.. 15 coppers in a day holy moly :hello2: and, ur seals are awesome (as always)

Re: Buttons, a Bayonet & 15 crusty coppers!

That is a massive pile of relics from the Island, IP. You are due big time!

I'm sitting here right now and looking out the window at the three inches of snow we got today. :'( It prevented us from seeking permission for a new site for tomorrow. I highly doubt we will even get out tomorrow or anymore this 2009 season. :'( It is not looking good, I tell ya. :'(

Yeah I seen it was snowing in PA today. (Football game) We're expecting our first real snow soon, but an inch or two might actually buy us a little more time by insulating the ground. A little time is maybe a week.

Sorry to hear that, Kyle. I will miss you guys' posts of finds. Usually it is not this bad here this time of year. Last year, I got in 8 or 9 hunts in December. This year is not looking so good. I'm hoping though...

All we need is a few sunny days.
