Button identification needed!!

This button is gilted. I'm just not sure if it's civilian or if it's war issued. The back of it is worn off but u can still read extra fine.Any thought would be appreciated.. thanks

Can you tell us what state you r in ?
I have found a button that kinda looks like your button star pattern...mine was found at a Colonial/Rev site,but still don`t know much about it .

Thanks Gary, I'm excited to finally be on here. I'm in virginia, we found some flat buttons and large cents in the same area. Just can't find much out about this button. I have went through every book I have and didn't see it at all. That's a good looking button u have too.

I'm not a button expert, but would say they both appear to be examples from the "golden age" of gilt buttons (civilian), roughly the 1830's to 1850's. Seeing the back though would help confirm that date range.
