Wow thanks a lot you guys. I am wondering why the button has a loop if it looks like its in a piece of antler

Good question about the loop. Although my first thought was "that would have to be one fat riding crop", as the diameters don't quite jive. So I looked into it...
Mark Cross started in 1845 as a saddle and harness maker. In the late 1890's their manufacturing of leather goods was switched to England, which is about the time this logo first appeared. They later became best known for their puses and other non-horse related leather goods (and along the way I noted some silver goods like platters and stuff). Anyway, I think it would be reasonable to assume it came from one of their leather jackets, purses, luggage, etc.
It seemed to me that the lion in the logo got blurrier sometime after the 1940's, but that part could be my imagination.
