1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard ma777y! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

2nd - I moved ya from GENERAL DISCUSSION over to WHAT IS IT? for more exposure.

It's difficult to tell from your pics if it's actually a pewter button or something else. :icon_scratch:
The design on the front definitely looks colonial in nature, but I'm having trouble seeing the remains of a loop attachment.

First, welcome to the forums. There are a lot of folks here willing and eager to help identify your item but, we could use all the help you can give us. First, place a coin in one of the pictures for a size reference and second, make sure your pictures are in focus. You might see if a magnet will stick to it. If it does I would agree with Tedyoh that it is a snap of some type.
