We all come home with the broken artifacts and flakes. I had a glass jar in my office that I have been staring at for some time wondering what I missed now that I have learned about diffrent tools and thought tonight I might take a look at it. The jar has been full for years. I spread it out and dug into it. Here is my hunt from the house. I found some cool thumb scrapers I did not know I had. It was fun but I sure made a mess. There are advantages to being single I guess. :laughing7:
Was hard getting a full picture of everything in this jar I walked down the table snapping pictures. Maybe next week I will hunt my buckets of flakes and coolers of broken pottery.
Feel free to show the rocks you bring home. It has helped someone like me learn .

Happy Huntin wherever you hunt !!!!

As a rule, i don't usually keep brokes, I leave them for others to find. Reason being also is that one can get far too many. I don't have them all together, so here are a few I kept from when i first started hunting.
All NC artifacts...

Molly do you think you ever learn anything from the brokes? I cleaned mine out and chuncked a couple pounds worth but did discover some decent tools in there. Nice frames.

@Jamey... Good luck with your new river looks like you are on the right path !

I put some on the mantle by my TV.

Yes of course. The very first serrated bi kirk I found, I kept, later to find it had a super impact fracture. I would have never known this if I hadn't have kept it. Also, I never knew about spalls until I found some, kept them later to find out what they were. yes a lot can be learnt by keeping brokes. I have about 250 artifacts from NC, I can remember exactly where I found my personal finds, I photograph everything. I know if I have found the other half to a broke at home. You know Rich, I used to find at least 20 blades a day, I would keep the best & just put the others back. (see blade frame) I always felt I would like others to experience the joy finding them that I did, so back they would go..Rhyolite of course, if it had of been agate or some super material, I doubt I would have put them back.. :D I do however keep most my rhyolite brokes (points) in my plant pots.
I guess one can have far too many brokes, travelling I can't be dragging a ton of brokes with me.. ;D
Looking at ya'lls brokes you see my point.. ::)

Few more pics. The Agee is my worst heartbreaker, Frileys...& me hunting.. ;D

Dr.Dave.Undertaker and Ms.Molly
I am glad to see that I may be normal after all. Haaa.
I did clear out some of my stuff but feel it is just a way for making room for more.
Nice brokes everyone. Like the displays. :icon_sunny:

But I like antiques ???

I'd love to be in a room up to my knees in brokes. Anyone who is leaving brokes in the field can pick them up and email me for my address. I'll pay for shipping once you get 10 or more. I think brokes are highly underrated and under prized. The Kirk in the frame is made from brokes and made a well appreciated gift. I made one in a large frame that was much better but never took a picture of it.

Hey that frame is pretty neat. We frame up the pottery sherds as well. Life is fun!

I'm getting more selective and bringing less brokes home. It really helps in training your eye to your local materials by studying brokes imo, also picking up every flake of chert can really throw off your competition if you've got any.

1st pic is some of last years finds and brokes. A broken banner fragment, classic dalton insitu...busted tip, and some real tearjerkers I found last year including two fluted paleos and a couple other broken paleo pieces, top right may be an Agate Basin...Only a matter of time, good thread Tn., interesting stuff folks.

Nice thirty7 !! I have a feeling your monster paleo is still lying there waiting on you.
Ya know I see some of the finest flaking ever on some of the brokes. I think they were pushing the envelope to make them so fine and broke them. Sometimes I find just a center section of something that makes you wonder if it was not spectacular at one time. I believe they also killed or broke on purpose some fine items as a ritual or sign of power and wealth. :icon_scratch:

Yes fun thread. We all find more brokes than whole and its fun to give them a little respect.

Yeah but finding LOTS of the "ole rhyolite" brokes sure gets old quick. If it was nicer material I would prolly keep more..
I find any more brokes you are having them then..lol..

Molly.

I like brokes nearly as much a whole ones. After all brokes are artifacts too. I like to study them the chipping patterns and hold them and imagine what the looked like when they were whole. I also collect brokes I don't know why but I always have, If you have any brokes that you don't want just email me and send them on my way. I also add a few here and there in display's along with other thing's such as polished rocks and pottery sherd's and bone artifacts it just make's it more interesting to me. I will look around and get some of my brokes out and post them tomorrow.
