Deep into the woods and the AT-PRO blasted a loud 83 at ten inches down. I carefully extracted this brass plate that still has a number of brass tinkler's still attached. 22 in total. I am super excited about this item! If I knew how rare / unique this find was I would have taken more time in writing the post. :)

Awesome find, absolutely a banner worthy discovery!

Do the holes match up to the number of tinklers? It might be worth hitting that area with lower discrimination and digging any sound. You could also sift the throw dirt, glass beads and other non-metallic items might be nearby.

WOW! Now that's a relic that nobody else has dug up before (in the life of the online forums) Truly banner material and congrats on the banner! It would make any display proud in having that piece on the top shelf that's for sure. Truly amazing that some of the tinkles stayed attached to the plate after all this time. My hat goes off to you and your recovery.:occasion14:

That's an awesome find! Congratulations on the banner!

Nice find and informative post. I think Ive found those tinklers before and tossed them.:BangHead:

That had some great stuff to teach, along with being an incredibly rare find...congrats.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give you a 10 for such a unique find and an 11 for your modesty. Such an incredible find is hardly a "thingy." I'm glad your find made banner. If it hadn't made the top, I would have missed it and the opportunity to see a wonderful find. I love these type of finds. I'm glad that those replying to the thread and the mods recognized your fantastic recovery. I don't believe I see too many banner finds go up with barely 2 pages of replies, but your discovery is certainly worthy of the recognition. A tinkler breastplate? Amazing. :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

An outstanding find! Congratulations.

I am quickly learning how shallow my depth of fur trade knowledge really is and am incredibly thankful for the feedback (and information) that you all provide. Thanks all!

Amazing! Congratulations on the Banner!

No way. That is incredible, and to be honest I'm not sure I'd have known what the heck it was without the information in the thread. Congrats on the banner, very unusual stuff up there this summer!

I looked at it before all the comments, & although I knew what Tinklers were, I had no other reference to work on. (No-one had replied). I just guessed it must have worked more like a wind-chime, until it made banner & I re-visited it.

So CONGRATS to the OP on a very interesting piece of early History, Museum quality! Now I know, its a banner well deserved.

..at least you didn't toss out a couple of silver arm bands with the "G.R." mark on it thinking it was a tree-tag. I did. Twice.

OMG!! You didn't at least notice they were silver?

Honestly I did not. They were laying on the top, sandy layer of a well traveled sand dune area (Northern Michigan) and I found both of them amongst other beach items (pull tabs, bottle caps, aluminum cans, etc). I remember looking them over and it just never occurred to me that it was silver - as the pliability was closer to that of aluminum or tin. I tossed both of them into a large scrap bin and, at some point, recycled with the rest of the junk metal. About a year-or-so later I saw a picture of an arm band that was nearly identical and immediately felt ill! I went back to the sand dune area and found a THIRD arm band...but still feel sick about what I did. Needless to say I keep nearly everything now - as I have found that I have much to learn about historical artifacts.

Banner in two pages is almost unheard of and I caught the Relic Recoverist reference in your description :headbang:
Congratulations!

Congratulations on the extremely rare BANNER Find! :notworthy:
