Boxes of quarters

This has been discussed before. I would recommend checking out the CRH beginner guide, and doing a search of the forum to get your best answers.

Quarters are DEFINITELY the way to go - keep digging!!!

Why even reply then?

I agree why even reply?? BuffaloBoy I was thinking about it. I think it would be cool to have a few silver quarters that we found. The two we have now we bought at a yard sale really cheap.

If you read through the posts about quarters, most people here say they are really, really rare to find when searching rolls. I personally have found two quarters through CRH. The first I found over a decade ago when I worked at Mcdonalds as a cashier during high school. The other one I found a couple of weeks ago when searching less than a full box of MWR. I forget at the moment if I searched $250, $300, or $400 worth of quarters. Since then I have searched one or two other boxes of quarters and found nothing else. Honestly, I think your best bet is to keep trying and find out for yourself. That's what I did. I may have just been really lucky. You honestly won't know how successful quarter searching in your area or even in your bank is until you give it a thorough try.

I have found silver quarters in String-wrapped brand boxes. I would guess my average to be one silver quarter per $500 - $700.

We even have a forum if the members are not helpful? :dontknow:
Good luck Jshane. I think they(.25) are in the teller trays and get recycled in and back out.

I think the general results for most folks on here is 1 quarter for every 8-10 boxes searched. I get quarters here and there because, like you, I would like to find one or two through means of CRHing. I have yet to find one, but then again I have only searched through $1690 in quarters so far.

In my area!!! I have not found a silver quarter in brinks or loomis boxes. I have found them in CWRs. If I was to keep looking in boxes I would do loomis only because coin star rejects silver and brinks gets some coins from coinstar. Good luck. I hear Dirt fishing is your best bet for finding them.

Wicka you need to put a disclaimer that states "these results not typical" if you talk about quarters hahaha. Can't believe the find you had, it was amazing.

I wouldn't be so sure that coinstar rejects all silver. I think coin counters in general reject coins that are damaged or worn. I personally witnessed someone dump around $400 fv in silver (all silver) into a coinstar machine. There were rejects, but it was probably under $10 in face value that was rejected.

unless you find a hoard of them , you are more likely to find 100 silver halves before a silver quarter

Whoa why did you let them dump silver in coinstar? I would've been WAIT ill pay ya double what coinstar will

It was a long time ago. I was much younger and really couldn't do anything to stop it. It sucks, but it is what it is. The good part, is that I now have the knowledge that coinstars do not reject all silvers. I know it for a fact because I saw that one gobble up a ton of silver quarters and dimes.

It's good to know there is a coinstar machine out there that accepts them.

I have friends who work for Coinstar Corporate in Bellevue Washington. Do you want the facts, or do you want to theorize?
the facts: Coinstar machines currently REJECT silver coins. It is a weight issue.

Another fact: They used to accept silver coins. they changed some things around in the last 2 years.

Currently - they are set to Spit out silver.

We go into firmware versions, or hardware versions, but my advice is for the recent style of machine, which most of them are.

Also, this test would cost you a Silver dime to see for yourself.

Great! Thanks for the info. Like I said, I was going off of what I have seen first hand. I said it was a long time ago (10 years ago). I'm glad you let me know more recent information. And based on your new information, the test would not cost any silver.
