Re: Bowl...R&S made in Germany

It is from the compagny Reinhold Schlegelmilch !!

Try googling that (text and images), and you might find it.

I think it could be quite valuable.

Agersea, it just says Germany. It has fronds or leaves or something printed in green. I've been looking on the link...so far nothing with the same pattern...

Re: Bowl...R&S made in Germany

Perhaps the photograph does not show it but there is no sign of wear on the bottom of the legs. Also the rim gold paint shows no wear. For an item within that time frame it should show some degree of wear. **This is just a heads up and not ment to down play the piece which is very nice.**
But China and a number of other countries are turning this type of item out by the thousands.
Its a sad fact not known to a lot of novice collectors.
The question is--Is there any use wear on it at all?

Yes DG, there is a lot of wear on the feet and around the outside edge of the rim.The gold overlapped ,but has worn away. This bowl belonged to a lady who passed it to her daughter who died last year. The daughter (was 90 or 91) kept the bowl locked up in the china cabinet. The daughter never married,my friend was her sister-in-law.
Thanks ZZTOP
ps: I know the bowl is over 75 years old.

That was my concern. You have a very good item there take good care of it.

Re: Bowl...R&S made in Germany

Beautiful piece and I definitely do not think it is a fake.

Reinhold Schlegelmilch had two sons, Arnold Schlegelmilch and Ehrhard Schlegelmilch, who were to make the mark bearing his initials famous.

Arnold Schlegelmilch started a factory in Tillowitz, Germany. In 1910, the Tillowitz factory began using the "RS Germany" mark stamped in green. The Tillowitz factory kept producing porcelain through the Second World War.

Judging by the particular molds and styles that have extensive gold work, one could speculate that the majority of the heavily gold pieces were produced at the Tillowitz factory, rather than in Suhl .
