Detector(s) used
Tesoro Sand Shark, Minelab Xterra 70
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Hey all. Just want to work something out in my head. Any advice or insight is welcome.

Bought a detector from an online secondhand shop. It was listed as an XP Deus 2. Arrived today and it's actually an XP Deus 1. Tbh the shop probably didn't know but anyway...
Cost was $600. Sadly it is no use to me as I want something that has a volume control for the built-in speaker as I don't like wearing headphones. I know I probably should but the only time I do is when I use my Sand Shark and that's only because they're hard wired.

I also have a near new XP ORX which again doesn't have a volume control for the external speaker. Bought the "Deus 2" with a view to selling the ORX as the Deus 2 has a volume control for the speaker but I've now ended up with two XP units, neither having a volume control for the external speaker. So, should I
  • return the Deus 1 for a refund and keep the ORX
  • sell the ORX and keep the Deus 1 (how much better is the D1 over the ORX anyway?)
or, as neither has a volume control for the external speaker
  • return the Deus 1, sell the ORX and buy a Nokta Legend
Worth mentioning is that I would have used the Deus 2 in seawater and both the D1 and the ORX are unsuitable for that purpose.

Really undecided which way to go.

Thanks for reading.

Return the item as it's not what was advertised.
Anybody private or a business knows the difference between a Deus 1 & 2.
Look different, and are different.
Go for the Deus ll going forward.

I have used the Deus ll once without headphones.
I will say the I probably dug unnecessary targets, and missed good targets.
Headphones for any machine is a must if one us serious about hearing all the tones.
The VDI is great on the D2, but let that be the secondary to the ears.

Update: seller is ok with returning the D1 so I guess that's problem solved. Part of me can't quite believe I have acquired a Deus and am letting it go as a couple of years ago these were the mutts nuts and tbh I'm half tempted to keep it but I know it'll probably just live in its box for months on end.

Was originally looking for a submersible salt water unit so for my purposes a Legend seems like the way forward. Still not sure what to do with the ORX though.

You can send it to me if you like, I'll freely accept anything I get in the mail 🤣

BTW I have both the DEUS I and II, I use DEUS I with elliptical for coins and jewelry, and the DEUS II for beach and relic.
My friend uses a Minelab 800 (I had one and sold it) and I generally get more stuff with the DEUS II than he does as far as relic stuff goes. DEUS II goes deeper and is way more stable on salt water sand.. BOTH have to add a cable to go into the water though, which I don't use..
Good Luck !!

Good. IMO, there's NO WAY Dēus and Dēus II could be confused.

Coils are completely different as well.

So, assuming the return goes hitchless, you'll be starting over.

You're looking for a MD suitable for salt water hunting and with volume control on the stalk.

I would start with that: Define the Problem.
Search: best salt water metal detector, compare features, etc., and decide on what you really want. If Dēus II is your choice, great. If it's the Legend, that's fine too; at least you've got a goal/target.

Next comes how you're going to accomplish it. Keep what you like and sell what you don't like/use anymore.

As far as headphones....
Headphones for any machine is a must if one us serious about hearing all the tones.
I agree with this. One thing nice about Dēus II is the choice of headphones; there are styles/types I don't like either--and none are perfect--but I have a couple of different sets for different conditions/situations.

may I suggest buying from one of our trusted sponsors found by scrolling down the menu page. There you'll find someone who knows what they're selling , you'll get the real deal not a Chinese knock off and a new machine has a full warranty.
