Wonder what era this would be from. The house standing there now is fairly old and on a main thoroughfare where the Battle of Nashville was fought. It's almost as big as my palm.

Thanks Park Pirate. I love weighty finds.

Really nice lock!

beautiful old lock...should clean up nicely! Not a lock expert by any means but it looks old!

I found one like it in Hartsville Nancy and the consensus was circa 1840. There should be initials on the key cover like "DM & Co.". HH, Q.

Now you just have to find the ancient chest of gold coins that the lock once secured.

Fine looking lock.

That's an awesome old lock and a great find!

If I ask you " How big is your palm? ", you wouldn't say " As big as the padlock ", would you?

Nice old lock, CG. I hope to find a nice old complete one too. Just pieces so far. Congrats. Nice find!

a very nice one to add to the collection, those are just cool

Looks old! Awesome find! Cleaned up it should be fantastic!

I wonder what the Key looked like? Must of been awesome.

Nice find - look for a key! Hahah Ha

I would get it in the tank.... like soon. If you can't do it soon, I recommend putting it in a "distilled water bath" in the meantime. Distilled water does not contain Chloride or salts. This is helpful because it will leach out the chloride ions which have been absorbed into the lock from years in the ground. It also will prevent it from drying out which can likewise give ill effects on the lock. Post a before and after pic, I think after electrolysis you will be surprised.

Sweet lock Nancy. I would say CW era for sure. I have a few myself that I dug at two different CW spots.
Congrats on your recent article in Western and Eastern Treasures. That CSA buckle is AWESOME!!!
Happy Holidays,

So cool!! I like it!! Certainly looks very old!
Have you lightly bristle brushed it to see if any marking are visible??
That's an awesome piece!
