Best solution against mosquitos?

Are these thermo cell devices expensive? Do they burn anything? sent from a potato...
They're not expensive and run off butane cartridges.

Avon sells a product called Avon's skin so soft and this truly works and doesn't have Cancer causing DEET!.

Friends use thermacel, They say the product worked great in the beginning but not anymore??

Did they make it better in the beginning to get you sold on the product? Same with frontline for dogs and cats, they seem less effective too!

You could be right since all the good ingredients that work, cause cancer somewhere in the US. I haven't used mine lately I usually use Cutters while detecting. I've never thought about using the Thermacell while walking detecting only while doing things sitting still like hunting or fishing. ProduceGuy, I remember using SSS in the early 80's for and it worked pretty well. I also remember taking garlic pills to stave off Mosquitos while bass fishing at night.

Yes I know people who do that. Another upside is it makes you have that "just put of the dryer smell" :)

In my experience Deep Woods Off is the all-around best. My buddy likes Deep Woods Off Dry.

I have heard of a guy who put a Citronella tree (obviously in a pot) in his boat and that kept the skeeters away.

We used 6-12 in Canada in the late 70's and 80's. That was decent.

The four top-ranked brands — Off Deep Woods Sportsmen II, Cutter Backwoods Unscented, Off Family Care Smooth & Dry, and 3M Ultrathon Insect Repellent — all contain DEET in varying concentrations from 15 percent to 30 percent, and were able to repel mosquitoes for at least eight hours. http://bucks.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/30/which-bug-repellent-is-best/

Whatever u do don't use agent orange! We tried that in the 70's

I guess I will have to get me one. Do they smell much while operating?
It does have a slight smell but it's not bad at all, especially if the Mosquitos are biting. I wish I had it on this morning. The temp was in the 80's and the Mosquitos were so bad I had to coat down with Cutters spray twice to even hunt out in the open. If I got close to the woods in the yard I was hunting they would attack even with the repellent on.

Wowwowowo did you say 80's outside the house really! Ahhh can't wait for warm.weather

I use a bug jacket and a pair of bug pants there is also gloves you can get, and I rarely get bitten. Just get the ones that are mostly made from netting cuz some of the suits can get darn hot.

I used my Thermocell at the end of last year before it got cold. There was a yard that I hunted multiple times, but the mosquitoes and gnats ate me up toward the back. I turned the Thermocell on and only used it for about 30 minutes and then turned it off. Seemed to be enough to drive them away from the area where I was searching. BTW, I used to carry it on my side pouch when I detected, with the top sticking out, but I just recently bought a holster.

I also used it for a couple of soccer games and outings that I went to. I placed it on the bench where everyone sat and it cleared the mosquitoes out. I think that the unit cost like $22 with a butane cartridge and 3 pads. The holster was around $12. I bought a refill kit which will last me 3 months, because I don't use it all the time. It smells a little like something is hot, but to me it doesn't stink or anything. There is also a no-scent cartridge which is used for hunting, but I haven't used it.

If you PM me your email address, the company will give you a discount on buying a unit.
