Best solution against mosquitos?

Sorry...wrong quote ... I meant does the thermocell really work?

Avon's product " skin so soft " works really well if you can find it.

Yup! Here in eastern NC the skeeters drink DEET martinis, shaken not stirred!! I just occupy my warmer months boating and thinking about MD'ing...

The BEST repellant is none at all, just use a mosquito net hat or net suit, then you can be in the most infested places and not get 1 single bite! Trust me I know, here where I live nothing repels mosquitoes as they are starved and they will do anything to get a bite.

I've been on those places, that's really a nightmare, especially when there is wet weather. No repellent seems to works

When I was In Belize in June I got a concoction from a lady there in Hopkins known as the Hemp Lady. She makes up this solution of various ingredients with hemp oil being the main one. There are other ingredients which my wife may remember. It not only worked on mosquitos but was completely effective against no-see-ums. It's the only stuff I ever ran across that repels those little monsters.

Great topic to discuss!

I have something that Mosquitos really love. Between me, my wife and three boys, I get bit the most followed by my middle son - 8 years old. The other don't really get bothered at all but I really get pounded. When I'm fishing in the deep woods I use 30% deet but when detecting I use Cutter Sensation. It works really well for me even with my high suceptabilty to be bit and doesn't drive me nuts feeling greasy or sticky. I really don't like using any of them and prefer to cover up with long sleeves and pants but, if its hot and I'm going detecting, the Cutter stuff works the best.

Geez, I've read this whole thread, and I didn't see anyone recommend garlic! Chew a few cloves an hour or so before you go hunting. It not only keeps the mosquitoes away, but all those pesky kids who keep asking what you're doing!

the little cartridge thing made by OFF works quite well. It has a battery and a small fan. I wear two of them outside and they give good protection in heavy infested areas. I put one on my belt and one on my shirt collar

Skin-So-Soft used to work on no see ums but, I'm not even sure it's made anymore. A Thermocell's work pretty well too

Hey everybody, I've got the perfect solution! (but I don't remember what's in it)

Your just killin me here~ get your wife to write the formula down will ya?

My only defense right now is a bug tamer suit. It works perfectly, but is a tad warm in the Florida summer.

LOL. That's too funny G.I.B. ! It's caked the CRS syndrome. I seem to have it too the older I get.

My daughter after living in Alaska for 4 years swears by a double barreled 12 ga.....

Walter Brennan's character, Hunk Marrier, in Northwest Passage had the solution:

Langdon Towne: (Slapping at mosquitoes as they walk through wetlands) Mosquitoes don't bite you, do they?
Hunk Marriner: Nope.
Langdon Towne: You put something on that keeps them off?
Hunk Marriner: Rancid bear grease. They hate the stink worse than I do.
Langdon Towne: (Smelling some of the bear grease that Hunk offers him) thanks. I'll take the mosquitoes.

Remember, there are more of them, but we're "smarter".

;-)

I use a Thermocell because I don't want chemicals on my skin. The Thermocell works great, but it will get hot and you have to be careful when you carry it. I have a holster and I carry it on my hunting rig. It is expensive though and once you use the pads, it is best to place them back into a ziplock in order not to dry them out.

Those are the best thing since sliced bread! My buddies laughed at me years ago when we ventured over to the GA coast to fish in new territory. The saw that I had sunscreen, Thermocell, first aid kit, etc in my diddy bag. Well I knew that part of the coastline was infested with "no-see-ums". By lunch time the whole boat was huddled around my Thermocell and even non-smokers were smoking cigarettes because the noseeums were so bad you couldn't stand to be more than 2-3 feet away from the Thermocell without a Marlboro burning in hand!
