So, looking at all these seals, I'm starting to think that's what this is. Originally I thought it was just a pendant - the bottom appears to be smooth, without design.

Looks good to me!
Excellent! I love these "best" posts, it gives a chance to i.d. a lot of my stuff. Inspiring. Do you think I should try cleaning the bottom - or leave as is?

If mine, I'd just leave it.

Not missing, its deliberate.

Here is one of the 4 I have found....the other 3 where very ornate like this one, but sadly "no where to be found". None with the actual seal but still a very cool find. This one came from a Circa 1750's cellar hole site.

Both these seals where found in the same week, not long ago. The very large round lead one by our John. It's a personal seal 12th century, it reads-S.WILELMI.FIL.WALTER, SEAL OF WILELMI DAUGHTER OF WALTER. the second seal is a nice 17th century seal found by me.

I don't but yours is nice. That's one relic that keeps evading me.I was with a guy once who dug one near me in one of Shermans infantry camps. No doubt it was stolen from a wealthy person in savannah or around the area. It had an orange stone and it had a weasel on it, and man it was big and beautiful. That's as close as I've ever come. Congrats on yours and all the nice ones others have posted.

Only , what Im thinking are best 4 of 23 I found , first is Sweden Hetman wars 1624-32 , second - royal shoemaker 1600-1700, third is nobles personal 1540-60 , fourth is royal prussian secretary circa 1680-96

Took me quite a while just to get these 3 but I like em. I did have 4 but gave one to a land owner seeing how impressed he was with it.
