Best 2 hour hunt of my life. BIG 1800's SILVER...TWO BARBER HALVES...YIPPEE!

I am STILL shaking...seriously. I know half of you probably won't believe this...but I have been hunting for 30 years and NOT found one of these. Now after an hour and 45 minute hunt...I have TWO of them. I honestly almost posted just one of them because I don't think I would believe this post myself...but I give you my word...it's true. I found BOTH of these Barber halves in less than 2 hours...and came home about an hour ago...EARLY . As a matter of fact I could STILL be hunting...but I sincerely needed to go home...as I am in shock...and just wanted to sit down and enjoy these beauties.
If you read my last post a week or so ago...then you know about the crazy site that makes detectors go nuts because of all the interference. This makes 9 coins now that I have pulled from this site in the last 2 weeks... and the latest coin is the 1906 Barber half. This nutty site has given up the following coins in the last 2 hunts...NO wheaties...NO mercs...BUT 3 Barber dimes...3 Injuns...an 1897 5 cent piece...and now TWO Barber halves.
After 45 minutes...I got a pretty decent high silver hit..but with all the interference could not pinpoint. I dug a plug deep enough to park my Harley in ...then ran the probe in the hole. Popped out a big clod of mud and saw a big silver rim and thought I found a stinkin' screw cap. WRONG...upon closer inspection...saw the lines on the rim...yippee. Thought it was a Walker...but when I saw the big head...my mouth just got stuck...in WIDE open position. Been waitin' 30 years for one of these...a BARBER HALF...and what a beauty. Dipped it in the mud puddle and wiped it off with my finger...then saw the date. 1898...and FULL liberty visible along the head. Looks like a solid fine condition coin.
After staring at it for 15 minutes or so...I did my best to make mouth close...and stay in the closed position. I then tried to gather myself as best as I could. I carried it to the car and set it on the seat...didn't even want to put it in my pouch.
Made my way back to my spot I had gridded and started again. After another 40 minutes or so I got a nice...but very strange hit. To be 100% honest...had I not just dug my first Barber half ...I might have PASSED on this signal.... It did have a slight high silver tone...but then it jumped down towards pull tab...and the tone changed completely. Turn a little...and the slight high tone came back. I thought...Well...what the heck...the Barber half just popped out 30 feet from here... so I'm diggin' anything that beeps. Again...no pinpointing because of the interference...and again a MONSTER plug. Ran the probe and got a nasty pulltab tone about 8" down. Popped out the old style tab ...then ran the probe again...BINGO. I thought a silver dime would go nicely with the my first Barber half. I dug down another 2" or so and popped out a muddy clod ...and then couldn't even move to pick it up cause' I started shaking from what I saw. ANOTHER BIG SILVER RIM peeking out of the clod from about 10" down. NO WAY this is possible ...is what I thought. After 2 minutes or so...my trembling hands grabbed the clod and squished it. Out plopped a SECOND Barber half covered with crud and mud...but the date was clearly visible...1906o.
I couldn't even hunt any longer...I just wanted to come home because I was in complete shock.
I drove straight home... placed them on the scanner...never even cleaning the 1906o...and took the pics. I then ran cold water on it and it's actuallly NICER than the 1898. I then took more pics after it was rinsed. It has full liberty and full rim...FULL everything. The scan doesn't show the detail...but it looks like it might have a shot at VF! UNBELIEVABLE!
30 years and NEVER found one...then in LESS than 2 hours I have TWO...and they are BOTH very nice. The hunt of my life and I am STILL in shock... and my hands are still trembling as I type.

Those are both fine pieces of silver to find with your metal detector. As you know, those are often worn badly.

Hunts like that are to be savored.

VERY sweet hunt! I fondly remember my two silver halves in one day hunt. It was in 1993 or 1994 at an old Boy Scout camp, and I found two 1940's Walkers, among other silvers in a two or three hour hunt, I was very excited.

It is not very often that we find a silver half dollar, so it is a thrill pulling one out of the ground. I would like to congratulate you for finding two beautiful Barbers and doing so in one hunt !

I always enjoy your posts and they just keep getting better. You're going to have to pull some gold to beat this one. I know how excited I was to find a Barber quarter. I can't imagine what it would be like to find two nice halves like those. Get back there and clean that place out.

Thanks Mike. I plan on voiding a certain 30 x30 section of this park of any signale whatsoever. It might take a few weeks...but that's the plan. May not turn up another coin...but you never know.

Congratulations Bryce, couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. What an amazing day! I found my first a few weeks ago and it was in horrible condition, yours both look awesome. Too bad about the interference but maybe that's why there is still big silver in there

WTG Bryce: It took me 40 years to accomplish this same feat. Some people might not understand what an accomplishment this is. 1. You have to get up and go hunting. 2. You have to go somewhere that there is 2 Barber halves to be found and then you have to walk over them and dig. The odds are pretty slim that this will ever happen. 2 years ago a friend and I found 3 in one day(2 for me 1 for him) I am glad that you got to experience the thrill of this accomplishment. I hope this thrill last till you find something better.

When I found my 1903 Barber half a month ago I was shaking also, Mud will tell you, I was almost crying, had tears in my eyes. When you find them in great condition 4 inches down it just changes you, It is such an overwelming feeling. I found a 1912 half a few years back but it was worn down to nothing and just wasnt the same feeling. Those you found have incredible detail.
and 2 in one day is an awsome accomplishment. yeah welcome to the club of multiple Barber halves. love the part about going home to enjoy them. so this is the section of park that had all the strange signals? I remember reading about it in your posts. sounds like your machine is adapting to the ground conditions, Congrats!!

Thanks Pro. Yep...this is the nutty interference laiden park. Funny thing about it though. Some day the SE settles down somewhat..and some days it doesn't. I just go somewhere else when it's nuts and try again at a later date. It's been that way for 30 years at this place.
Seems like the SE has enough"smarts" about it to let me hunt sometimes though...whereas all previous machines dont.

Good job on the Barbers! I'm heading out in a few minutes, I need some of your luck! Good hunting.

you earned the second one -- finding that old style pull tab most folks would have went " knew it was too good to be true" and back filled their hole -- you proved the old saying "always recheck your hole" --- I got a gold ring that way once after get rid of an old beaver tail type tab pull ring (which mimics a ring perfectly) -- that old pull tab was body guarding the second barber half--- the serious interferance is most likey why your finding the goodies -- most likely blocked the older type detector folks from hitting the area in the past --and lots of modern detector folks as well -----thus it saved itself for you --- so enjoy it while you can
