I found this in the backyard of an 1870s house. It was pretty deep and I have no idea what it is. It is about an inch tall.

That looks like a fancy shaft tip from a buggy/wagon with the ball tip broken off

Looks to me like the broken-off top of a candlestick (candle holder). The edge of the small end looks broken.
