Hi all,
I found this on the beach at a depth of 3 inches. It is not marked as to metal type but it appears to be silver. The markings on the piece are L-2 in the center, and one side circle has the markings DS and 5-, and the other circle has the mark 3-. The size of the openings are proportional to the numbers, with the side marked 5- being larger than the side marked 3-.
At first glance I thought it may be a scarf clip or holder, but the different sizes of the openings seems to dismiss this. Would anyone recognize what this is?

Sorry km_hoyt, failed to mention, there is no sign of any bending or twisting on this. It appears to be exactly as made.

I did some searching and found this: It is a SIRIS™ Swan Neck Finger Splint.
They are made of silver and sell for: $74.00 - Regular or Extra Strength
$84.00 - Extra Width.

I will make this solved.

Thanks again

To be honest Michaelangelo, I just got lucky. I figured that being found near the beach, it should have something to do with fingers. When I realized that the two openings were of different sizes and the edges of the circles appeared to be purposely beveled for something to fit inside, ie: a finger is narrower at one end, i started to seach for finger splints?

It is not worth much, but silver is silver.

Ok, you know what? It absolutely looks like that splint, HOWEVER, when I first saw it I said to myself "there's those dual fishing pole guides again"! My friend and I use to be advid salt water fisherman (then I started fresh water and never looked back), and he had a pole handmade by a craftsman and it had dual fishing line guides (rings) on his pole when we picked it up. We never saw anything like it before, but oh well, we don't know everything. ANYWAY, do you think I can find a photo on google of another one? NOT!!! Splint it is LOL! :laughing9:
BTW never saw one of those splints either!

I spotted a similar gizmo when researching old bolo ties. Go to the link & then scroll down the page to the Morgan Dollar bolo tie. There is a similar double ring atached to the back of the bolo for the laces to go thru

For $260 bucks maybe Ill solder a splint to the back of a Morgan. :sign13: :D Post on eBay with hints of Indian origin. That would make one hell of a ring. pic for the record.

HAND CRAFTED OLD PAWN JEWELRY MORGAN SILVER DOLLAR BOLO TIE
this unique piece was created using an authentic 1880 US Morgan Silver Dollar with an attached ring clasp. The maker is unknown. The piece came from an estate sale an was among many other pieces of Southwest and Native American jewelry.
