So what is the latest consensus of the Gold Trap sluices? Are they all they were cracked up to be? Thinking about a Mini model to use in small creeks with slower flow. You guys that are using them think they are a good way to go? Thanks for any info.

They are not so good in slow flow. As long as you have good water flow they are great. They are awesome if you can set up right next to where your digging, it is almost like using a highbanker. My only problem has been getting it to stay put in the heavier flows. I will think I have it wedged in there good then the next thing you know it is floating up.

So they won't work good in a small, slow flowing creek then? How about the mini California Drop riffle sluice? Would it be better in slow flow. I know the big ones need a pretty good flow. I have one of their Stream Sluices built into a power sluice that works great.

I use a little drop riffle in the slow water. A lot of guys like the LeTrap too.

How small is the creek and can you describe the flow. I have had my mini in some small creeks and it worked fine. You have to baby sit it a little more in slower Dow but you still process a good bit of material since your classifying and processing at the same time.

Same here...I have a drop riffle (angus Mackirk) for slower water or less volume and a Bazooka Goldtrap for more/faster water. Ideal combo for all conditions.

Thank you all for the replies. I guess i will see about the mini Gold Trap and then try them both to see how they do.

If you're handy a drop riffle sluice is quite easy to build. Make it from pine and spray it with gloss black paint and you're good to go. Otherwise get some trash bags or tarps and capture the stream flow and direct it to your bazooka.

good luck-

Thanks. I have a large drop riffle sluice now. May get a small one and the mini gold trap and see.

I gave the Bazooka sluice I was trying away.

Many more pieces of equipment were just easier and more efficient. :dontknow:

The Schmidt gold trap is the patent Todd bought. Then they changed the design to make it easier to build.

1 Needs fast volumes of water
2 Never stays put unless attached to a board to pile rocks on.
3 Fluid bed chamber has to small of holes in the pipe (part of the design change)
4 Funnel to run said pipes, Backs up the water force and negates the fluid bed flow
5 Heavier when hiking

Otherwise it was fun.

Ohh. Ok, well maybe i will just stick with my drop riffles. I know they work and they are sure easy to clean up.

We went to Steves design lately

With the new (fri evening) change in dredge definition. It is all we have in Kalif for now.

There is a mechanical device definition that is being resurrected by the usfs . It considers a hand sluice a mechanical process and therefore a mechanical device. Soon sluicing and panning will be under attack.

Get the gold and HURRY.

Yea,
The Government is out to close down everything we do. They want complete control of our lives. If they can't figure out a way to get money out of us by fine'ing or Fee'ing, they just put a stop to it. Money grubbin' so and so's.

Anybody have a headerbox for Bazooka sluices so I can use it in slow water with my Honda WX 15 pump?
