I don’t think so, The calcite reaction to moisture turns lime stone black and the silica in the sand stone creates the Varnish shine. So when you take a picture it creates light bounces off one part and not the other which creates those stark vibrant colors in photos you see in the Supers.

The trail map in the pic has never been anywhere but in the Museum

I understand - I thought for some reason you were implying that someone actually VARNISHED the latin heart stone . My understanding from Jim Hatt is that the Latin Heart stone was made of something completely different than the rest of the stones - supposedly it was some sort of hard dark slate.
